Iwatch Kalon walk back to his car, and only shut the door when his tail lights disappear down the road. I’m giddy, my skin vibrating with electricity. I kick my shoes off and send Oakley a text. I know she’s been waiting to hear how my date went.

I take a bottle of white wine out of my fridge and pour two glasses. A few minutes later, my front door opens, and Oakley bursts in like a hurricane. “Tell me all the things!”

I smirk, and wonder how I’ll explain everything I’m feeling, what I’m thinking. The truth is, I’ve kissed a lot of guys, but Kalon? He puts them all to shame. Makes them all look like amateurs, fumbling teens who don’t really know what it means to really kiss a woman.

“Stop looking at me like that and tell me what happened!”

“Calm your tatas,” I laugh. “It was nice.”

“Nice?” she screeches. “A cup of tea is nice, bitch! You’d better have more details, otherwise I’m going home.”

“We kissed.” I shrug. I don’t tell her it was the kind of kiss that made my insides melt, and my toes curls in my stiletto heels. Or that it makes me wonder if immaculate conception is actually possible.

“Is that all?” she asks, grabbing her glass of wine.

“Well, yes,” I scoff. “It was our first date, I wasn’t going to sleep with him.” I wanted to, but he showed enough restraint for both of us. “But that kiss…” I bite my lip, and let the statement hang. “God.”

Oakley opens her mouth just as my phone goes off. We both make a grab for it at the same time. I fumble with it, but manage to catch it before it falls to the floor.

“I’m sorry, but am I the only one who just got a little tingle in my jingle from that text?” Oakley asks.

I snort. “No, you weren’t the only one. That man has some crazy juju, or something.”

Oakley sighs. “Was it good? The kiss, I mean.”

“Is the sex with Sebastian good?” It’s the only way I can think of to put my kiss with Kalon into perspective, by comparing it to something.

“It’s insane,” she replies, and her eyes light up. “Are you comparing sex with how Kalon kissed you?”

“Not just any sex,” I tell her. “The kind that has you limping the next day because you took a trip to pound town.” She gulps her wine, and pours herself some more.

“Okay, we’re taking the day off tomorrow so we can go shopping and get some pampering.”

“We can’t do that,” I laugh. “We have too many clients at the moment. The summer debutante season is almost here and—”

She cuts me off. “And I’m the boss. We are doing it. I’m going to text Holland right now and tell her we’re having a girls’ day tomorrow. I know you haven’t been for a proper wax in forever.” She’s not talking about my eyebrows, and she’s also not wrong. She whips out her phone, sends Holland a text, and proclaims, “It is done. You are going to be ready in every way when that man shows up at your door on Friday night. Is it weird that I’m excited for you to get laid?”

“Yes, but it’s you, so it’s expected.”

“Two days really isn’t a lot of time, but we’ll make it work.” She polishes off her wine. “So, what’s the deal with you two?”

I take a sip of my wine, and then reply, “It’s nothing serious, for either of us. He made it clear where he stands, and I think I’m okay with it. Honestly, Oak, this dating thing is hard, I’m not opposed to something without strings if it’s with him.”

“I wouldn’t be either,” Oakley says. “You’ve got eyes, that man is fine.”

A mental image of him in his suit pants, shirt sleeves rolled up comes to mind. I’m tempted to tell Oakley about Kalon’s ink, but decide to keep that little tidbit to myself. Oakley doesn’t need to know everything. I’d like some things between me and Kalon to stay between us.

“I didn’t think he’d do it for me, you know? But he was quite a…” I search for the right word. “Surprise.”

Oakley’s phone goes off. “Ugh, that’s Bash, we were watching that new show on Netflix, Sex/Life, when I ran over here. He’s asking me to come home so we can finish it, something about episode three, and nineteen minutes, and whatever.”

“Then go, dumbass. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

She gives me a quick hug, a kiss on the cheek, and runs out the door — she’s like a jack-in-the-box most days, but when she’s excited, she’s like an energizer bunny on crack. With a planner. I finish my wine and decide to have a hot shower. I’m still feeling the aftereffects of my date with Kalon when I climb out and wrap a towel around my body. I’ve never been self-conscious, but I do know I’m not considered ‘normal’ by society’s conventions. I have hips that don’t lie, and an ass that’s, quite literally, meant for grabbing. And Kalon, the way he looked at me all night, he wanted to devour me. I know that much. Next time, I think I might let him.

The following morning, Oakley and Holland show up at 9 a.m. And it’s over coffee that we plan what we need to do for the day. I don’t really need new clothes, but Oakley insists, and Holland is just along for the ride, glad to have a day off.
