“The theme of the party is Christmas Eve Eve,” Scarlett said. “Haven’t we already been over this?”
“No. Lame.”
“It wasn’t lame yesterday when I picked up all those string lights you sent me to the store for.”
I laughed. I probably shouldn’t have done that when I was thinking of changing the theme...
“Don’t tell me,” Jacob said. “You want the theme to incorporate Greek mythology?”
“What? No. Ew.”
He raised his eyebrow at me.
“Absolutely not. This has nothing to do with my mystery man. And everything to do with Mr. Halifax. The new theme is...” I drummed my hands on the table. “A Christmas Adam party!”
Liam, Scarlett, Jacob, RJ, and Axel just stared at me.
“What the hell is a Christmas Adam party?” RJ asked. “Wait, let me guess. Do we exclusively serve Sam Adams beer? Or is it like a celebration for our founding fathers?”
I laughed. Why did he just assume this was about Samuel Adams? So random. He and Liam must have been in a US history class this year. “No. A Christmas Adam party. Not Adams.”
They all still just stared at me.
“I don’t understand what you’re not getting.”
“I’m not getting any of it,” Jacob said. “Who the heck is Adam?”
I sighed. “The Adam. It’s a thing. For Christmas Eve Eve. Because Adam came before Eve.” This was going to be epic.
“Have you suddenly found religion?” Axel asked.
“What does that have to do with anything?”
“I don’t understand what’s happening,” Axel said.
“Adam came before Eve. So we’re throwing a Christmas Adam party.”
“No, I get that,” he said. “But I thought you wanted people to come? I’m not sure a religious party is the right vibe for the last day of the semester.”
RJ laughed. “Now I’m picturing bibles everywhere. This sounds super lame, Soph. Unless the priests are suddenly into the nuns and not the altar boys. But that’s like a lot of robes for a party.”
“There aren’t any priests. You’re picturing it all wrong. It’s basically the opposite of that. Everyone has to come in fig leaves.”
Scarlett laughed. “It’s like 20 degrees outside, Soph.”
“There’s plenty of empty closets for coats. Just let me tell you my whole vision.” I sat down and pulled out my notebook where I’d written down my ideas. “Everyone will be dressed in theme like Adam and Eve were just created. We’re going to make the apartment look like a jungle. It’s going to be so freaking sexy. Think...no inhibitions. No worries or judgements. We could even get some live animals. Snakes for sure...”
“Absolutely not,” Scarlett said. “You know I’m scared of snakes.”
“How about some red pandas?”
“I don’t think you can rent those.”
“I have an animal guy,” I said. “Well, I know a guy who knows an animal guy.”
“Are you talking about my abuelo?” Jacob asked.
“Bingo. Can you ask him to get us an assortment?”
