Would I be able to feel a boner through this thick material? Probably not. Unless it was massive. I shifted slightly, trying to catch him getting as excited as me.

His hands tightened their hold on my ass.

Oh my God. He was feeling me up. There was no other explanation.

“Go celebrate with your friends,” he said, his voice muffled from the costume.

“I’d rather celebrate with you.”

“Now, Miss Hunter.”

Him holding me like that and calling me Miss Hunter was like every fantasy come true. But out of the corner of my eye I saw Jacob celebrating with a few teammates.

Jacob’s head was turned in the other direction though. I followed his gaze to where Axel and Scarlett were making out in the middle of the field.

Jacob needed me.

And Mr. Halifax had just released his hold on me anyway. My feet touched the ground, but I kept my hands linked behind his back. If he wasn’t wearing this costume, he could have kissed me right here, right now.

Instead of doing that, he lifted his arms, pulling mine down. But he didn’t just remove them. He let me run my hands down the feathers on his chest.

Was he trying to kill me?

“Now, Miss Hunter,” he repeated, pulling me out of my illicit thoughts.

Right.

He pulled my hands off of him, his feathery fingers tingling my palms.

And for just a second, we stood like that. Holding hands in the middle of the stadium.

But then he stepped back.

My hands fell from his.

I was pretty sure he was staring at me. But it was impossible to tell. I’d pushed him as far as he would go right here. But next time, he’d cave, I knew it.

Right now Jacob needed me though. I winked at Mr. Halifax, turned on my heel, and ran toward Jacob.

He smiled when he saw me.

And when I jumped into his arms, he caught me just like Mr. Halifax had. Well, not exactly the same. Jacob’s hands were on my thighs, not my ass. Mr. Halifax was definitely obsessed with me.

“You’re my MVP,” I said and kissed Jacob’s cheek.

He laughed. “Thanks, Soph.”

“That touchdown in the first half was epic, Jacob.”

He lifted one of his hands and traced his thumb beneath his number I’d painted on my cheek. “Thank you. For this.”

“Well, as you like to say. I’m your girl.”

He laughed. “You know what I meant.”

I nodded. I did.

His eyes darted to something over my shoulder. I wrapped my arms behind his neck and squeezed him tight. I knew how Jacob was feeling. Like he wasn’t enough. But Scarlett hadn’t chosen Axel over him. Jacob had made the choice for her. And I think that maybe that made the whole thing worse.
