I laughed. “Why do I feel like you stole this from your dad’s office?”
“I have no idea why you feel like that. We should probably get dressed. I’m excited to finally see this secret lair of yours.”
“What time is it?”
Adonis looked down at his watch. “Almost 7.”
“Crap, we’re going to be late for Scar’s birthday.”
“Pumpkin will understand.”
I laughed. “Hand me my dress.”
He grabbed it off the ground and dangled it from his fingers. “I’d much rather you come get it.”
Chapter 36 – Bee My Valentine
Saturday
We were the last ones to arrive to the party. And it looked like they had abandoned the idea of going out because there were some pizza boxes on the desk.
I’d been kind of avoiding the secret lair since the Christmas Adam party. I turned away from the desk.
Scarlett threw her arms around me. “You’re late, but you’re here now, so I don’t even care.”
I laughed. “Happy birthday, Scar.” I pulled back and handed her the gift bag I was holding.
She pushed the tissue paper to the side. “Oh my God, I love them.” She pulled out the pair of red heels that matched her dress perfectly. We’d gone shopping earlier this week to get red dresses for Valentine’s Day, so I knew they’d be an exact match.
She kicked off the ones she was wearing as she sat down to strap them on. Her smile was so big as she put her feet out in front of her. “My dad will kill me if he sees me wearing these.”
“Which is exactly why I bought them for you.” Because he’d never let her buy them herself. I sat down next to her on the couch and watched Adonis greeting all my friends.
He turned toward Scarlett. “Happy birthday, pumpkin.” He pulled an envelope out of the back of his pants and handed it to her.
“You didn’t have to get me anything.”
“You Hunter girls are weird about gifts. And it’s nothing, really. It’s just a card.”
Scarlett laughed and pulled it out. And then she laughed harder. Her card had a pink monster on the front saying: “Happy Heart Day.” But “heart” was crossed out and he’d written in “birth” instead. She flipped it over. It said, “I hope you have a monster of a day.”
“Thank you, Adonis,” Scarlett said.
“No problem.” Adonis plopped down beside me. “I hope that was okay,” he whispered. “I didn’t write anything about my dick. And I had a box of like 20 random monster cards.”
I laughed. “You’re good.” I knew that mine was special.
“This reminds me of being a kid on Valentine’s Day,” Scarlett said with a smile. “I actually have a couple of these saved from you,” she said to Axel.
I glanced at Axel. He did not look pleased.
“He really hates me, doesn’t he?” Adonis whispered.
“No,” I said. But I really wasn’t sure.
“Well, I came prepared for that. He’s gonna like me in a minute.” He pulled out a stack of cards from the back of his pants and stood back up. He started handing out the valentines cards to all my friends like we really were kids celebrating the day in school.
Jacob looked very confused.
