It really was way too soon for Adonis to give me something like this. But it was becoming very clear that I was head over heels for him. And he was head over heels for me.

“Team Adonis,” Scarlett said as she sat down next to me in the cafeteria.

I laughed and dropped my hand.

“It’s really pretty.”

“It’s a lot though, right? So fast?”

“Technically I got this before Axel even asked me to be his girlfriend.” She waved her left hand in the air, making her engagement ring shimmer.

I laughed. “That’s very different.”

“Is it?”

“Yes. You two have known each other forever,” I said.

“Sure, Axel and I have known each other for longer. But Adonis has been pining over you since last fall. And he’s been very patient waiting for you to get over Mr. Halifax. The whole thing has been very romantic to watch. I really like him for you.”

I smiled and touched the dove again.

Axel sat down and pulled Scarlett onto his lap.

She laughed and wrapped her arms around him.

“So what are we doing for your birthday, baby doll?” RJ asked Scarlett.

“Well, there’s really only one thing I want for my birthday,” she said.

RJ just stared at her.

“I want you to stop calling me baby doll,” she said with a laugh.

“Surely you can think of something better, baby doll.”

She rolled her eyes.

“But seriously, what are we doing?” I asked. We were running out of time to plan something.

“For what?” Adonis asked as he sat down next to me.

“Scarlett’s birthday is Saturday. And she won’t tell us what she wants or what she wants to do.”

Adonis smiled. “Happy birthday week, pumpkin.”

Axel cleared his throat and looked down at Scarlett who was still sitting on his lap. “But really, baby. What do you want to do? I want it to be perfect.”

She looked up at him. “I don’t need to do anything special.”

“But it’s your 18th birthday,” he said.

“Yeah, but I’ve already gotten everything I want.” She kept staring up at Axel. “I made the same birthday wish for as long as I can remember. Every time I blew out my candles, all I wished for was you.”

Axel pulled her closer and kissed her.

They were ridiculously cute.
