No. Worse. They’d both slept with me. But Adonis had made it seem like he really liked me. He’d said all that stuff about me being gorgeous and otherworldly. He’d gotten me to believe him. And he’d looked me in the eye and promised me he wasn’t going anywhere. He promised not to break my heart. And he hadn’t meant a word of it.

My boyfriend was a dick.

God, who was I kidding? He wasn’t my boyfriend.

This was all some sort of sick prank or something. I wrapped my arms around myself and looked up at the flurries falling from the sky.

It felt like my tears were freezing on my cheeks.

I plopped down, not caring about the snow getting on my skirt. I buried my face in my hands.

I’d told him not to break me. I would have begged him if it wasn’t so pathetic. But wasn’t I? Pathetic?

Here I was, exactly where I’d been at the beginning of the semester...shattered.

“Aphrodite?!”

I lifted my head to see Adonis jogging across the parking lot.

I blinked, thinking I was imagining him. But it was definitely him running toward me through the snow. The pain in my chest eased.

For a few minutes there, I’d hated him. But I’d never been more excited to see someone in my life. I stood up and ran down the steps.

I reached the sidewalk and my feet skidded on the ice.

But he caught me around the waist before I could fall. “What’s wrong?” he asked.

I threw my arms around his neck, pressing my body against his. The heat coming off his body chased away the cold. “I thought you left,” I croaked.

He chuckled in my ear. “Sorry. I actually thought you might think that and thought it might be kinda funny...”

I pulled back and lightly hit his chest. “What the hell?”

“RJ told me your family likes pranks, and...”

“This wasn’t funny!”

“Wasn’t it?”

“No,” I said firmly.

“Maybe a little?”

“No.”

“Just a little bit?”

I laughed.

“See.” He grabbed my hips and pulled me back in close. “You think I’m hilarious.”

“You’re not funny at all.”

“I’m a little funny.” He tickled my side.

“Stop it,” I said with a laugh. “And we need to get inside. I don’t want you to get kicked out of Empire High too.”

“The weather is shit. A lot of people are late.” He nodded toward a few other students hurrying toward the school.
