“I didn’t.”

“Your fly is down, idiot.”

Adonis looked down and had the audacity to laugh.

“You think this is funny?” Jacob asked.

Adonis shook his head and zipped up his jeans. “Not even a little. I’m honestly just really confused. I didn’t take advantage of her. I was just trying to help. And she was the one that pulled me upstairs. I was just doing exactly what she told me to do. Reenacting that night with that prick of a teacher.”

“What the...” Jacob shook his head. “What is wrong with you?!”

“She wanted to know that she wasn’t bad at sex. I was trying to squash that fear by showing her how much I’d enjoy the exact same thing. I wanted her to know that him leaving had nothing to do with her. And to prove to her that she doesn’t need him. Because she has me.”

I pressed my lips together.

His eyes locked with mine. “And Aphrodite, it was amazing. You’re amazing.”

Tears started streaming down my cheeks.

“Wrong words,” Jacob said.

“Why?” Adonis asked. “Would someone just tell me what the hell is going on?!”

“That’s what Mr. Halifax said in the note he left her afterwards,” Scarlett said. “That she was amazing.”

“Okay,” Adonis said. “Well, I didn’t know that. Scratch the amazing thing. I meant fantastic.” Adonis stepped to the side, but Jacob put his hand on his chest to stop him. Adonis stopped but kept looking at me. “But why did you get upset before? Why did you run away from me?”

“Because you called her ugly,” Jacob said and pushed him back. “When you know she’s gorgeous.”

“Jacob, stop.” He was just saying that because he was my friend. It wasn’t true. And everyone knew it.

“What the hell?” RJ said. “You said my sister was ugly? Just wait until I rearrange your face.”

“I didn’t say that, little bro,” Adonis said.

“Stop calling me that!” RJ snapped.

“And stop lying,” Jacob said. “I don’t know what game you’re playing, but stop messing with her head. This is the last thing she needs right now. She’s already hurt enough.”

Liam laughed.

I stared at him. I was pretty sure he was high right now.

“Bro, we’re related and even I know Soph is hot,” Liam said. “The Hunters have fantastic genes. And you should have heard what the guys used to say about her in the locker room.”

“What did they say?” Adonis now looked pissed off instead of confused. “And who’s saying it?” For the first time he actually looked like he wanted to fight someone.

Liam laughed. “Not the basketball team, chill. They know she’s out of their league. I meant the football team.”

Adonis shook his head. “I want names.”

“What is this guy’s deal?” Liam asked.

“I want to know who’s talking about my girl,” Adonis said.

“I’m not your girl!” I yelled.

“Yes you are. And you know I think you’re beautiful.”
