“I forgot. But I haven’t seen any on the way to school, so that’s probably a good thing.”
I laughed.
But the smile had dropped from Jacob’s face.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to beat the shit out of him?” Jacob asked.
I followed his gaze to see Gigi grinding against Adonis.
I’d wanted Jacob to beat up Adonis weeks ago. But tonight I didn’t care. Adonis’ stupid green eyes lifted to mine.
It was the first time he’d looked my way all night. At least, as far as I knew. I’d been doing my best to ignore him since his disgusting display at the game. I quickly turned away from him.
“Just ignore him,” I said.
“That might be kinda hard,” Jacob said.
“Why?”
“Because he’s coming over here.”
Oh fuck me.
“Mind if I cut in?” Adonis asked.
“Yeah,” Jacob said. “I do.”
“Aphrodite,” Adonis said, ignoring him. “I’m just asking for one dance.”
It felt like my heart was beating in my throat.
“She’s with me, man,” Jacob said. “Get lost.”
I wished that was true. If Jacob actually liked me, it would make my whole life so much easier. But he didn’t.
And it was stupid, but I wanted to hear what Adonis had to say. He’d told the Triple Gs off yesterday and now he was all over them. I wanted to know why.
“One dance,” I said.
“You don’t have to dance with him,” Jacob said.
I patted his chest. “It’s just one dance. I can handle it.”
Jacob reluctantly let go of my hips. “I’m going to go get you a refill.”
I nodded. That gave Adonis like one minute. I could tolerate him for 60 seconds.
Jacob disappeared into the crowd.
“What do you want?” I said.
Adonis smiled down at me like he always did. Like nothing had changed in the past 24 hours. “Are you mad at me?”
I exhaled slowly. Was he serious?
“Really, tell me. Are you jealous?” He was staring at me as if he already knew the answer. He reached out and tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear.
I swatted his hand away. “Am I jealous that you’re going to have a foursome with the Triple Gs? No. I just hope you don’t contract something.”
