“Well you missed a great game,” Axel said. “The Eagles won.”
“Screw the Eagles,” I said.
He laughed.
Scarlett turned to Jacob. “You missed out Saturday night. This really hot guy danced with Sophie almost the whole time we were at that club.”
Axel gave her a look.
“What? He was really handsome. I’m engaged, not blind. The guy was hot and he clearly had the hots for you, Soph. Oh my God. It’s like the kiss thief all over again!” She lightly hit Axel’s chest with the back of her hand.
“How is it like that?” I asked. She’d had a mysterious kiss thief pulling her into dark rooms and making out with her. It had been very fun unmasking him, but this wasn’t the same at all.
“You don’t know who it was. And we need to find out.”
“It’s nothing like that,” I said. “None of us ever saw the kiss thief. You literally had eyes on my mystery man all night. You could pick him out in a lineup.”
“So?” She shrugged. “We still don’t know who it is. Maybe we should set a kissing booth up for you.”
I laughed. “No need. It was nothing.”
She raised her eyebrows. “Nothing? I saw the way you were dancing.”
“I was only dancing with that guy to make Mr. Halifax jealous.”
“This guy looked closer to your own age,” Axel said.
“I don’t understand what that has to do with anything.”
“Just saying.”
I adjusted the collared shirt under my blazer to better reveal the side of my neck.
“Shouldn’t you try to hide that?” Scarlett asked. “Instead of showing it off?”
“Why? I want Mr. Halifax to see it.”
Scarlett stared at me. “Don’t you even want to know what your mystery man looked like?”
I shrugged. “He was probably hideous. He wouldn’t let me see his face.”
She laughed. “Hardly. He was tall. At least six feet. He had shaggy dark hair and the most amazing green eyes.”
“Seriously, were you staring at him all night?” Axel asked.
Scarlett ignored him. “Sophie, you two looked good together.”
“Green eyes, huh?” I asked.
She nodded.
I had this picture in my head now. Of smoldering green eyes staring directly at me. “Eh, not my type. I have a thing for dark, brooding brown eyes. And brown hair. I can’t wait to sink my fingers into Mr. Halifax’s hair.”
“I think we should find him,” Scarlett said.
“Mr. Halifax? He’s in his classroom.”
She stared at me like I’d lost it. “No, not Mr. Halifax. Your mystery man. Like I said, it’s just like when we were trying to unmask my kiss thief...”
