But Adonis didn’t turn around.

I wasn’t sure if he didn’t know she was speaking to him. Or he just didn’t care. But he grabbed a fry from my plate instead of engaging.

Gigi did not take the hint. “I’ve been looking all over for you.” She sat down in the empty seat on the other side of Adonis and put her hand on his arm.

He finally turned toward her. And then his gaze flicked up to Gemma and George who were standing behind their leader.

“Why were you looking for me?” Adonis asked. “I don’t know you.”

RJ snickered.

I couldn’t see Gigi’s face. But I was sure she didn’t like that.

She leaned closer to him. “Well, it seemed like you wanted to get to know me by the way you stare at me during your games. It’s nice to officially meet you. I’m...”

“You’re the Triple Js,” Adonis said. “I’ve heard.”

“Gs,” she corrected.

“Isn’t that what I said?”

“No. I’m Gigi, and that’s Gemma and Georgia.”

“Cool,” Adonis said. “But I’m kinda in the middle of a conversation with my friends. I guess I’ll see you at my next game.”

“We just wanted to know if you were going to the party this weekend?” George said.

Was she looking for a new third with Luis? Because Adonis did not seem like he’d be into that. Not that I really knew him.

“I don’t know,” Adonis said. “Let me ask my girl.” He turned toward me.

Had he just called me his girl?

Adonis stared at me expectantly.

But I was speechless.

Gigi laughed. “Please don’t tell me you’re dating Sophie. I don’t know what these con-artists have told you, but this is not the cool table, hon.”

Adonis kept staring at me. Like he was willing me to acknowledge his earlier comment. Or Gigi’s trolling.

But I had zero energy for any of this. Just like I hadn’t had any energy for that past month.

Adonis shook his head and turned back to the Triple Gs. “Pretty sure this is the cool table. I’m sitting with all the stars of the football team. Who won the championship. And the homecoming king.” He pointed to Axel.

How did he know that?

“And my girl was the homecoming queen.” He put his arm around my shoulders. “Which technically makes her the most popular girl in school, doesn’t it?”

Seriously...how did he know any of that? But it was hard to keep questioning his words when I was invaded by the smell of his cologne. It took me right back to dancing in that club.

“Pretty sure that was rigged,” Gigi said.

Adonis didn’t reply.

“Well when you wake up from whatever this is, you know where to find me.” Her and her friends walked away, their high heels clicking on the linoleum.

“Sorry about that,” Adonis said and dropped his arm from my shoulders. “They seem a bit crazy, huh?”
