I hated that Jacob had confirmed that to him. “We’re just friends too, Adonis.”

He smiled. “We’re friends? I’m glad to hear it. I was a little worried you hated me.”

Wait. I... I sighed. “Whatever. You and Jacob can change the game however you want.”

“You’re not helping?” Adonis asked.

“I have no idea how to code. Calculus is more my thing.”

“So I’ve heard,” Adonis said.

I lowered my eyebrows as I glared at him.

Jacob cleared his throat. “So...basketball? Are you guys excited for tryouts tomorrow?”

Adonis grabbed another sandwich. “Yeah, should be fun. My boys and I are going to kill it. Right, guys?”

So now they were his boys? What the hell was this nonsense?

“It’ll be fun to turn the team around,” Liam said.

RJ nodded. “I can’t wait until we’re not defeated anymore.”

Adonis laughed. They must have already told him what that meant. And I hated that he was already in on an inside joke.

“You coming to watch the tryouts, Aphrodite?” Adonis asked. “Since you love basketball so much?”

“Oh, I’ll be there.” To watch him embarrass himself.

Chapter 27 – Basketball God

Friday

Adonis had bulldozed his way into my life. He’d sat right next to me at lunch. And despite Jacob’s warning, Adonis didn’t stop flirting. But I was the only one who seemed to think it was inappropriate. Because Jacob didn’t beat him to a pulp.

Adonis joked around with my friends like he’d been sitting with us at lunch for years. And his thigh kept brushing against mine. And his stupid muscley arm kept bumping into me. And he stole one of the fries off my plate. Who stole food from people they didn’t know?

And now I was in coding, trying to ignore him. But he was making it impossible. Wearing my hair down hadn’t stopped his whispers. Now he just brushed my hair off my neck, his fingers lingering on my skin. The whole thing seemed way more intimate.

He was acting too familiar.

Too fast.

And I wasn’t sure why Jacob had just let Adonis steal his seat like that.

I felt Adonis’ fingers on the back of my neck again.

I turned to look at him over my shoulder. “Stop it,” I whispered.

“Stop what? I haven’t even said anything.”

“Stop touching me.”

“But you like when I do this,” he whispered.

I glared at him. “I do not.”

He leaned in a little closer. “Then why does your skin pebble every time I touch it?”
