“Sounds like you guys could use a fresh perspective around here.”

I stared at him. “It sounds like you’re a stalker.”

Adonis smiled at me. “Is it a crime to want to get to know you, Aphrodite?”

“Getting to know me is asking me questions. Finding out stuff about me and my friends online is not the same. At all.”

“Well, I’ve tried to get to know you, but you keep shutting me down. My feelings are starting to get hurt here, Aphrodite.”

His feelings were starting to get hurt? Since when did he care about anyone’s feelings getting hurt? If he cared, he wouldn’t have repeatedly belittled my relationship with Mr. Halifax!

“And from what I understand...you’re in a bit of a predicament. And I’m here to help.”

“What predicament?” I asked. But I already knew.

His gaze bore into mine. “Something about being a bad lay?”

I’d been waiting for him to comment on what I’d said earlier. I knew my face was bright red. “You know nothing about me.”

“I know that it’s not possible for a goddess to be bad at sex. But I’m happy to test that theory for you.”

“You guys, can we go?” I stared at my friends.

“Yeah, I’m ready,” Adonis said.

“I’m not talking to you!” Seriously, what was wrong with him?!

“Is everything okay over here?” Uncle James asked.

I cringed. I really hoped he hadn’t heard any of that. “Yes,” I said. “But I was thinking that maybe Scarlett and Axel can take the new kid for their project.”

Scarlett raised her eyebrow at me.

“Well, how about you guys spend the afternoon figuring out who needs the most help? You can all come over. That way you can ask me any questions you have too, Adonis.”

Stop being hospitable, Uncle James! “Sorry, I have a thing,” I said again.

“School should always come first,” Adonis said.

Said the guy who had just been kicked out of his last school! I turned around to glare at him. He was so full of shit.

“I agree,” Uncle James said and turned to Scarlett. “Pumpkin, give him the address. I’ll see you all at home.”

I wanted to scream. Instead I walked out of the room and hurried to my locker.

Scarlett quickly caught up to me. “I can’t believe your mystery man is here! I thought I saw him at lunch, but I assumed I was imagining it. Sophie, this is so amazing.”

How was any of this amazing? “Why didn’t you stop me from droning on and on about Mr. Halifax?”

“I did try to stop you. We all did.”

“You could have slapped my face or something,” I hissed.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t know what to do. You just kept going on and on about being a terrible lay.”

I groaned. “I’m leaving.”

“You have to come over, Soph.”
