This is the perfect opportunity to try and walk. Sure, my balance is still way off when it comes to crawling, but I’m excited and have all this adrenaline inside of me that will help.
“No,” Daddy firmly replies. “I’m not putting you down. I don’t want you to trip and fall. We are almost to the living room where you can sit and talk to her.”
Pushing my bottom lip out, I turn to him. “Please, Daddy. I just want to go to her.”
“You’ll get there soon enough. If you ask me again, you’ll have a hot bottom.” Daddy leaves no room for argument.
I turn around, not wanting to ask him again, and patiently wait for him to put me down on the ground.
“How are you doing?” Nora asks. “Tell me everything. I want to know how your life has been since he picked you up. He was so excited to get you when I last saw him.”
My eyebrows bunch together. “You saw Daddy?”
She nods. “I did! It was very briefly. He mentioned that he needed to get a couple of things together before he could come and get you. I don’t remember when that was, but then I heard from my Daddy that he got you.”
“He did. It was a little bumping,” I reply honestly as Daddy sets me down on the ground.
It was really weird to be talking to Nora while Daddy was still carrying me. Looking down at her was awkward, and it was starting to hurt my neck.
“Bumping?” Nora asks. “What do you mean by that?”
I rub the back of my neck. “It was a little bumpy. Sorry, I’m a little frazzled right now and can’t really think.”
This is my worst nightmare.
“It’s okay,” Nora gently says as she places her hand on top of mine. “Daddy told me a little bit about what you’ve been going through. I’m sorry I didn’t mention earlier that you were still there when I left. I thought they knew, but then I heard that you were really shaken up. I wish I could have done something more for you.”
I force a smile onto my face. “It’s okay, Nora. You didn’t know. You were also getting used to being here. I don’t blame you at all.”
“Ella had a little scare this morning, so she might be a little absent or want to sit in my lap,” Daddy explains. “So if she grabs me or sits in my lap, don’t get too startled and think it’s your fault.”
I look nervously at Nora, waiting to see her reaction, but she doesn’t do anything.
“It’s okay. I had something similar happen. The fire alarm went off, and Daddy wasn’t here. I got so scared. Didn’t want to leave his side for a while, but it gets better, I promise. There are still times when I’m in my kennel that I get scared and just want to be held, but Daddy reassures me that nothing is going to happen.”
“And that works?” I ask.
She nods. “Sometimes, most of the time. Every once in a while, it gets bad, and I can’t seem to calm down, but that’s when Daddy gives me some medicine to help force my system to calm down, and then he does the rest. We’ve gotten pretty good at it.”
“See, Little Pet. There is nothing to be worried about. We are going to find out who is doing this and put a stop to it. We just need to have faith in Galar and his men that they are going to find him,” Daddy reminds me. “We’ll find ways to cope.”
“Swaddle her,” Ronal says. “It doesn’t work well for my pet, but it may work well for yours. It gives them a sense of you embracing them at all times. I’ve heard it really works when you also hold them. Makes them feel extra cared for in a sense.”
“We’ll have to try that when we go back home,” Daddy replies.
I tune them out and turn back to Nora, wanting to talk about everything and anything. The attempted break-in this morning long forgotten.
“How are you doing?” I ask.
“It’s been good. Daddy is treating me well, and honestly, I love it so much more than being on the space station. I didn’t realize how exhausting it was to be on there and survive,” she replies.
“Come on, Little Pet. It’s time to go back home. You need a nap, and I need to feed you again,” Daddy says.
“Not right now, I’m talking to Nora,” I reply, not looking at him.
“Little Pet, now,” Daddy commands.
Turning around, I cross my arms over my chest and tilt my nose up. “Fuck no.”
