Theo is beside me before I’ve finished sitting down.

"Talk to me."

I look back toward the stands, but Baylor’s face is still turned into Ellie’s shoulder.

"That one hurt."

By the end of the second, we’re down by one and I’ve had enough of Beau’s shoulder for the evening. I’ve also had enough of thinking about where Baylor’s sleeping tonight while I’m supposed to be tracking his fucking line.

I get checked, answer Theo honestly, then head into the room.

Hunter finds me before I sit down.

"Baylor’s by the family corridor."

I look at him.

"She asked one of the staff to get you."

I glance toward Haynes.

"Make it quick," he says. "Then get back here."

Baylor is standing near the access door with her pass turned backward against her sweater.

She straightens when she sees me.

"How’s your shoulder?"

"Still working."

"That’s not what I asked. You could barely push yourself off the boards."

"Theo checked it."

"I saw." Her eyes move toward my arm before returning to my face. "He keeps hitting that side."

"You know why."

"Yes, I do. I’m going to talk to him."

"About the game?"

"About being an asshole."

Despite everything, I smile.

"There’s my girl. But you can’t, you know that. It’s just a game and he’s playing smart. He knows where my weakness is."

"Your shoulder."

"No… you. He knows I’m not going to fight back because you’re here."

Her face changes just enough to make me wish I’d said it somewhere we had more than a few minutes.

I step closer.

"I saw the text. Dan and the crew are done."
