“Someone might come in.”
“That didn’t seem to bother you a minute ago.” Anyway, I was almost completely naked now, my dress hanging down and over my hips. I surged up and kissed him to bring him back into the moment. And it worked. He groaned again and began kissing me furiously like it was the first and last kiss we’d ever share. I pushed him back against the chaise and straddled him, loosening his tie and popping the buttons of his shirt.
“Hey,” he protested. “I made sure not to tear that handkerchief you’re wearing, you could at least undress me with the same respect.”
“You’re lucky it’s only one button,” I said as I opened his shirt over his pecs and the ridges of his abdomen, all smooth skin, roughened by a sprinkling of golden hair, slightly darker than what was on his head. I slid my hands over him and watched his muscles jump as I settled my pussy over the bulge in his pants.
“You’re trying to kill me, aren’t you?” he said and I shook my head, mesmerized by my pale hands on his chest.
“Levi, how are you this perfect? It isn’t fair.” I bent my head and kissed his chest, the skin warm and supple. He smelled like bourbon and leather mixed with the cologne I’d bought him.
I undid his zipper and slid my hand into his pants. He grabbed my hips. “Indy, maybe we should wait . . .”
“Stop overthinking everything,” I warned him, but the look in his eyes did make me still. He was legitimately terrified. “I don’t understand, Levi. What’s wrong?”
“It’s just I’ve never done anything like this.”
I laughed. Okay, he was teasing. I could deal with that. “Oh come on. You’re no virgin.”
“I know but . . . I’ve never done this with someone I . . .” He swallowed. “. . . cared about before.”
“What?” I couldn’t make sense of what he was saying. Was he still messing with me?
He slid his hands to cup my face, tracing the contours softly and then down to my neck. He pulled me toward him and followed the path that his fingers traced with his lips, pressing warm, tender kisses to my skin until once again, I didn’t know if I should laugh or weep. I wanted to do both.
My held fell back and I closed my eyes as I slowly lowered myself onto him. Both of us held our breath. Levi’s forehead fell against my collarbone. He trembled and took a ragged breath. I wrapped my arms around his warm broad shoulders and pressed a kiss to the top of his head, his golden hair so soft against my lips, and lowered myself so he filled me completely. He filled me so perfectly. I could feel myself stretch to accommodate him, but there was no discomfort, only the sensation of being full, complete. Complete for the first time.
And as we moved together, we were one. All the years stripped away. We were back on the shore of the river counting the freckles on my nose. I was still that girl and he was still the same boy. He knew me and I knew him, now in a way that was so bare and intimate that it was if we’d merged. Our past, our present, all merged into this moment as if it has always been inevitable. It had always been right.
“Indy, Indy.” He chanted my name against my skin as his hands fell to my hips and he guided me over him. The intensity became unbearable, and I came with a sob. Levi gripped me to him as his own orgasm ripped through him. He throbbed inside me, and he buried his face against my chest. I felt his warm wet tears against my breasts.
I held him to me, threading my fingers through his hair, damp and curly at the nape. Words were unnecessary. And anyway I was incapable of forming any. So we held each other in the moonlight, while the stars watched, our bodies still joined and our hearts keeping time.
Chapter 25
Diana
My memories of getting back to the villa were vague. We snuck out in the moonlight down to the dock and found a boat with the key dangling out of the ignition.
“They won’t miss it,” Levi had assured me. Watching him drive the stolen boat with his tux half open, hair ruffled, and my panties still in his pocket, it felt like a scene out of a James Bond movie. And I was all too willing to play the role of Bond girl—the shy archaeologist with a naughty side.
We had barely made it back to the room before we were going at it again like two famished people, ravenous for each other’s bodies. Then sometime in the middle of the night, Levi admitted, “I’m hungry.”
There was a small light on in the kitchen, but otherwise it was dark save for the pool of moonlight spilling in through the window. Levi went straight to the fridge, setting out butter, eggs, and milk and making a neat circle on the counter.
“What are you doing? You’re not going to cook, are you?” I glanced nervously at the door. “I don’t think we’re supposed to be in here.”
“Relax, Indy. What are they going to do if they find us?” Levi answered, cracking the eggs into a bowl. “Besides you need sustenance after all those orgasms I just gave you.”
“Hey!” I slapped at his arm, secretly glad that he was back to teasing me again. Part of me had worried that it would be awkward between us after what we’d just done. “So what are you making?”
“Your favorite: chocolate banana pancakes and eggs over easy.” He winked at me. “Someone needs to feed you or you’d forget about it.”
“Well, you certainly never forget about food.”
“It’s one of life’s true pleasures. Like sex.” I felt the blood rush to my face. “And kissing.”
He leaned over and brought his lips to mine, slipping his hands around my waist. I moaned and leaned back against the counter. I could feel his erection against my leg. He broke off, pressing his forehead to mine. “If we were in my kitchen, I’d take you right here. But someone might walk in.”
