The Pulse Within Her

Rhenn pulls away, grabbing my waist and tossing me to his bed.

A pair of heated orbs peer down at me. I lift up on my hands, letting my own eyes travel over him. His toned figure and strong posture are all-consuming. It’s the not-so-subtle bulge beneath his sweats that holds my focus, though. It tells me Rhenn wants me just as badly as I want him.

“Who said you could wear my clothes?” he asks, his tone serious and hot as hell.

I lower back down, boxing my arms around my head. “If you don’t like it, maybe you should take it off.”

All the silver drains from his eyes, leaving behind only the darkest gray.

Rhenn advances forward, ready to do exactly as I suggested. “Nuh-uh. Yours first.”

The corner of his mouth pulls up, entertained at the fact I’m commanding him instead of the other way around. Rhenn may be stronger than me. He may have more power. Right now, I have all the control.

“As Vix wishes.” He grips the bottom of his tee, lifting it over his head before moving to his pants.

I stare at the body of the man who has caused me so much pain, seeing him like this for the first time.

I understand Siena’s attraction to him, her need for constant touching.

Not just a monster. Not just a man. A forbidden dream.

“Your turn, Vixen. Show me what you’ve been hiding.”

With his focus on me the way it is, the beating in my chest is unmatched.

My thumbs slip around the thin strap of my panties. I lower them without hurry, never taking my eyes from his. When I have them off, I toss them to the floor by his feet. His stare drops from mine only for a moment while he examines the red lace at his side, and he steps closer.

My hands find the bottom of his shirt. He’s at my side before I can do anything more, helping me to get it off.

The contact of his sweeping fingers against my waist causes an eruption of gooseflesh across my skin.

His gaze falls over me, drinking in every inch of the naked girl on his bed. It’s more attention than anyone’s ever paid me. I feel a flush creeping down the back of my neck, finding its way between my thighs.

It isn’t until his focus lands on my lower stomach—to the thick and textured scar running parallel against my hip bone—that I regret letting things go this far.

Pain may be something I hate to love, but I much prefer the light scratches from Rhenn’s knife than the one that caused this. At least my internal wounds are hidden. This one serves as a daily reminder, a permanent mark to let me know just how cruel the world can be.

I use one hand to cover the scar, the other to cover my chest.

This was a mistake.

Rhenn’s eyes flick to mine, narrowing. “Why are you trying to hide?”

When I don’t answer, he grabs my arm, pulling me forward and walking me to the large round mirror hanging from his wall.

“Look,” he tells me.

I don’t.

Rhenn lifts my chin, forcing me to face myself. “Look at her,” he whispers. My eyes travel over the girl he’s holding from behind. “Do you see?”

“See what?”

His lips find the side of my neck, grazing lightly. “What I see.”

Something in my chest flips, and I turn to face him. Rhenn guides my focus back to the mirror. His strong hand moves to spread across my stomach, fingers curling against my skin.

Taking a breath, I drop my arms to my sides, exposing my body for us both. I watch me, but mostly, I watch him, taking in the way his gaze travels over me like he’s waited so long for exactly this.
