I shuffle to a seated position, eyes jetting to the entrance.
Oh, God. Why haven’t I locked that yet?
Rhenn has one hand gripping the door while the other holds his link. It’s angled just enough for me to see my face glowing across the screen.
My initial shock of seeing that he even has a picture of me quickly fades, and a cold wave of panic crashes over me. I must have accidentally called him when my link fell…
There are no greetings as he steps into the guest house, scanning the entire area.
He storms out of sight, but from the sharp rustle of what sounds like the shower curtain ripping open, I take it he’s in the bathroom. His footsteps thunder down the hallway, fast and heavy, before I hear the tense rustle of sheets.
Is he checking under the bed?
I wasn’t exactly…quiet, so I’m sure he had to have heard me on the link, and I’ve never felt so humiliated.
When he finds nothing, because there is nothing, Rhenn makes his way back into the living room. His eyes fall over me, then down to my hand, and the realization strikes.
I try to hide the proof under the safety of the little throw blanket, but Rhenn reaches me faster than I’m able to do so. He grabs my wrist, lifting it to expose the wet evidence.
“Vixen, Vixen, Vixen,” he hums quietly. “What a bad girl you’ve been.” I want to tell him to leave, but the words won’t form in my mouth. It’s suddenly too warm in this room and my lips feel dry. “Did you finish?”
Every ounce of blood rushes to my cheeks. I can’t speak. Not with his eyes searing into me the way they are. I swallow, then nod.
Keeping his eyes on mine, he comes closer, nearly climbing on top of me. Rhenn guides my hand back to the waistband of my pants. “You sure?”
The heat that had filled me earlier is back, only this time, it’s even hotter. Burning bright embers through my core.
Would he really stay here with me touching myself? The thought alone has my thighs clenching together.
Something is seriously wrong with me.
Again, I nod.
My stomach swirls with his response, raising my hand between us and sucking my finger into his mouth, cleaning it of the mess I’d made. It’s not intimate, exactly, but it has every piece of me spinning.
“Too bad.” It’s almost a groan as Rhenn breathes out, trailing his focus to my lips. “Tell me, who were you thinking about in that little fantasy?”
If I wasn’t already sitting, I’m pretty sure my legs would have given out from the shock of his question. “What? No one!”
“Was it me you imagined between those pretty legs?”
“Ew, no!” My pulse runs faster.
“Little liar.” Rhenn’s thumb rubs over my palm, a screaming reminder that he hasn’t let go of my hand yet. “I would never fuck you, but if I did, it wouldn’t be sweet like that.”
Reasoning finally finds me and I pull out of his grip, crossing my arms. “I don’t sleep with parasitic assholes,” I offer coldly, standing so I can show him to the door. “Just their asshole friends.”
Rhenn’s features harden, a look I’m all too familiar with. “You were with him?”
“Maybe.” I shrug, shoving past him and making my way toward the exit. “It could have happened at the party. There’s a lot of space on those back steps. Or maybe at the wolves’ house. They have plenty of spare rooms. It could have even happened right here, but you know, I just can’t remember.”
Glancing back, I watch the fire in his eyes. Rhenn moves slowly, finding his place in front of me. My palm rests on the handle of the door, but something stops me from opening it. He’s near enough I can feel his warm breath against my cheek. “Go ahead, little stray. Push me more.”
“Let me go.” My voice is quiet, almost lost between us.
“I don’t have you, Vixen. You’re standing here on your own accord.”
He’s right. Physically, he isn’t touching me at all. It’s my legs that won’t move. My arms that won’t work.
