Whisper

Stealth nods at me as I sit at the table next to him in the club where he’s stalking his target.

“Hey. Shadow’s coming too.”

“What’s going on?”

“See the shit stain over there in the VIP section? The one in the silk shirt holding court?”

“I see him.”

“They call him Frisco. I’ve been trailing him for weeks to confirm all his shady dealings. We thought it was money laundering and drugs, but it’s people. This is the club he uses to make transactions.”

“Fuck.”

“Yeah. Boone tapped his phone and found out someone is meeting him here in forty minutes to drop off a shipment. Pretty sure that shipment is women and not drugs. Got to end it tonight.”

“Absolutely.”

A server comes over and I order a soda, wanting to keep my head clear for several reasons. I’m gonna research the guy who tried to drug Blush after this, but first things first.

Ten minutes later, Shadow strolls in, looking every bit the powerful boss he is. With his presence, he captures the attention of everyone he passes, and for a moment I remember the way I felt when I first laid eyes on him. It was like meeting a god in person. I still feel that way sometimes.

Shadow nods, taking a seat on the other side of Stealth. He’s only there a few seconds before two women bounce over to us. One of them seems shy and a little uncomfortable, but the other is smiling and showing off her considerable assets.

“Are you brothers?” she asks.

“Something like that,” I say.

“Wow. You’re all so… Gorgeous. Can we sit?”

Shadow makes a low grunting noise that I’ve learned means he’s annoyed.

“Sorry, ladies. We’re not what you’re looking for tonight.”

The woman pouts slightly. “We can’t change your mind? We’re down for anything.”

“We’re gay,” Stealth says bluntly.

“All three of you?”

I nod. “Yep. All three of us. Birds of a feather, you know?”

“Huh?”

“Nothing. We’re not available.”

The other girl tugs her friend’s arm. “I told you. Men who look that good are not straight.”

That makes me chuckle, but my amusement fades away quickly when there’s movement at the target’s table.

“What’s your plan, Stealth?” Shadow asks.

“I figured I’d intercept the shipment in the alley while you two escort our friend outside.”

“Perfect,” he says.

Stealth rises and slips through the club. If I wasn’t looking at him, he’d be hard to notice, good looks aside. We don’t call him Stealth for nothing.

Shadow stands, nodding his head for me to join him, and I do. We move to the dance floor behind a column where we can still watch Frisco.
