“I probably just need to sleep.”

“I don’t know.” His voice wavered.

“Go,” I barked. Then, more gently, “Please. I just want to be alone.”

He was quiet for several long seconds, then he blew out a long breath, turning to Nielson. “Looks like I’m in.”

The rain started to fall in earnest, streaking the window so that everything we passed was a blur of color. I didn’t even remember pulling into the hotel.

I slid out of the booth, hollering, “I gotta get back,” at Monroe loud enough for him to hear me over the music.

I’d been here less than an hour, but something was wrong with Cally, and I needed to know what it was so I could make it better—even if it was just running out to the drug store to get him medicine or something.

Outside, I flipped my collar up against the wind and pulled out my phone to request a car. It took a hot minute for a driver to accept, only for him to cancel on me three minutes later.

Fuck.

I looked up and down the street, trying to remember which direction we’d come from on the way here. The drive from the hotel had only taken about ten minutes. It couldn’t be that far away.

I clicked out of the ride share app and over to Google Maps, only to learn there were two Marriotts in town, each one a fifteen-minute walk from here, but in opposite directions.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have the first fucking clue which one the team was staying at. Couldn’t even hazard a guess since they both had “River” in the name.

I pulled up my text messages and clicked on the chat someone had set up when we’d been trying to figure out who was coming out tonight.
