Jared, could Alexa get letters in prison?

“This would have to have been planned, guys,” I sigh. “She wasn’t up for parole or anything. Alexa was supposed to rot in prison.”

Jared

Yes, she was cleared for communication, but it would have been checked. Why?

Me

Running down a lead. I’ll handle it.

“Kelsie recently married a very rich man, but he’s weak. He wants to be well liked by the world, and a crazy, unstable wife isn’t going to be what he needs. My stepsister forgets that I am a reformed asshole,” I say.

“There are good reasons to be an asshole. Did you hear about your son’s classroom aid—”

“Our son,” Draven interrupts. “You’re marrying Noor. He’s going to be yours as well.”

Arran sounds as if he can’t breathe for a moment, and his hands strangle the steering wheel before he nods. Draven needs to choose his moments better, because I think Arran almost had a heart attack.

“Fuck, I wasn’t ready for that,” he wheezes.

“I do love a good mic drop,” Draven murmurs as Ci grins.

“Please continue,” Ciaran drawls.

“My point is that when I heard that Noor was dealing with petty bullshit from a woman who thought I was giving her more attention than I was, I set her straight,” Arran explains, blowing out a breath. “I tracked Constance down to the candle shop her friend owns while Noor dealt with the principal, and told Constance I would never be interested in her. Noor is mine, and I won’t allow someone to hurt her or Zayn. I let my inner asshole out and made her cry. There are consequences we have to mete out, retired dick or not.”

“Kelsie is going to realize that soon enough,” I agree. “It’ll be after the holidays, but I’m going to get invited to the next event I know she’ll be at to crush her like a bug. No one fucks with my family and gets away with it.”

“Our doctor is going to have a field day with this,” Draven says under his breath.

Oh well.

CHAPTER

FORTY-ONE

TWO MONTHS LATER

ALASTAIR

My wedding is in a few days, but there is something very important I need to take care of first. I watch as Kelsie smiles with someone at the governor’s ball. Her husband is making inroads in politics, and is going to be both embarrassed and devastated to find out how unstable his pretty wife is.

I’m here by myself tonight as the governor is a hockey fan and was more than happy to extend an invitation to me. Pushing my hand into my pocket, I stroll toward Kelsie for a private chat. My thumb is over the button to record everything, and I reached out to Reginald to let him know he needed some important intelligence about his wife.

I can feel his eyes on me as I raise my brow at Kelsie, and just like a bitch in heat, she licks her lips and excuses herself.

“Did you change your mind?” she asks under her breath, her cocktail dress showing just enough skin. Everything about Kelsie is performative now that she’s married I’ve noticed. From the light pink lipgloss to the glossy waves she tosses her hair into; and the heels.

It’s all about creating the perfect image for her husband to enter politics. This is a recent move for him, and he’s being heavily groomed by the men in this room. The number one rule in politics is to keep your home life perfect. I don’t know if Kelsie simply hasn’t shown her crazy to Reginald, but I’m going to change that.

“Change my mind about what?” I ask, winking as I push the record button. “I’m all alone, aren’t I? No one to keep me in check.”

“Hmm, sounds perfect,” she says, her eyes hooding as I lead her into an alcove. The mansion is full of little spaces like this. If I listen closely, I can hear a moan here and there. This appears to be a common hookup spot.

Lovely.
