“Hey, baby. I couldn’t come by without seeing that pretty face.”
“Well, thank you, and thank you so much for dropping Theo off.”
“You know I got you. Hold on one second,” he said, turning and walking back to his truck.
My heart pounded as I mentally prepared to meet his son’s mom. Up until he walked away, I hadn’t even looked at his truck. I wasn’t scared by a long shot. I just knew how petty women could be.
From what I heard before, she wasn’t interested in standing in the way of us. That didn’t mean she would feel comfortable having me around her son. I could absolutely respect that, but I wasn’t prepared to let Quinton go. When he stood to his full height, he held two different sized pizza boxes and a small bag.
“Where do you want me to put these?”
“Quinton.” I sighed.
“The boys wanted pizza. I hope you didn’t start cooking. I got you and T pizza, wings, and salad since I got some for us.”
“Thank you so much, baby. I was just in the kitchen trying to figure something out. I’m gonna come over and cook for you and Vick when you get everything taken care of,” I said, leading the way to the kitchen.
Quinton put the boxes on the counter and walked over and put his hands on my hips.
“Move in with me, Shiloh. I’m catching hell sleeping without you next to me.”
My eyes bugged before I could temper my reaction. “Move in together?”
“Don’t look like that, Shy.”
“I couldn’t help it. That came out of left field.”
“Sleep on it for a while but know that daddy needs you close.”
“I hear you, baby. We should probably talk to the kids before we do anything.”
“So, you’ll think about it?”
“Yes, daddy.” I smiled.
“Don’t get me started in here. I got Vick and Trish in the car.”
“Go ahead. I’m about to talk to Theo about his day at school.”
“Yeah, I’m starving. Let me get out of here. I’ll call you later.”
Quinton gave me a quick peck on my lips before heading out. Theo came running into the kitchen as the door closed behind him.
“Mr. Quinton got us a pizza. Did you see it?”
“Yeah, he brought it in. Are you hungry?”
“Yes, ma’am. When is Trey Trey going to be big enough to eat pizza?”
“It’ll be a while.”
“Too bad. I’m about to wash my hands.”
“Bring your backpack in here first,” I instructed.
“I told you I don’t have no homework, Ma.”
“Yeah, I know better than to take your word for it. You’ll wait until bedtime to suddenly remember.”
