I nodded. “Yes.”
“Well, I’m going to get our boys and taking them to the field. We’ll be back in a couple of hours, baby. Get some rest.”

Quinton
It was a brand-new experience for me, but I was happily pussy whipped. Shiloh was beautiful, fine as hell, and she could cook her ass off. Her round ass and pretty-ass eyes drew me to her, but the way she was all about her sons and her business locked me in. Once I was exposed to her sassy, sweet demeanor and how she took care of my black ass without even thinking about it, I was a goner.
Good pussy came a dime a dozen, but a woman who checked all the boxes and ones I didn’t even have was a winner in my book. All I needed was somebody who wanted me for me, could cook, and was able to get along with my son. I wasn’t a hard guy to please. I was beyond pleased, which was why I wanted her to be well rested.
Meanwhile, I was in the blazing sun, listening to our sons talk a hundred miles per hour. All I wanted to do was bring my boys to practice. Standing out there running my mouth, I let one of the other dads persuade me into being a team dad.
All it entailed was making sure the boys had snacks, a ride to practice and games, and supervision. I loved spending time with my son, so it was a no-brainer that I would give up a few extra hours on the weekend to do something he loved.
Being able to bond with Theo was a bonus. After the initial run-in with him and Victor, they had been thick as thieves. I was just as crazy about him and Quinton Jr. as I was about their mother. The boys were making a game of running bases while a few of the dads chit chatted from the bleachers.
“Alright, man, I’m about to grab these rug rats and head out. See you next weekend,” one of the dads told me before walking out toward the bleachers and whistling.
His sons must have known his signature whistle because they immediately changed their course and came in our direction. Theo followed them, sprinting over to where I sat.
“Mr. Quinton, is it time to go?” he asked me.
“In a minute. We need to go check on your mom. Are y’all ready to eat?”
“I am.”
“Alright, go get Vick so we can go.”
“First, can I ask you a question?” he asked, lifting his brows.
“What’s up?”
“You promise you won’t get mad?”
“Did you do something bad?” I asked him.
He quickly shook his head. “No.”
“What’s going on, buddy?”
“Do you like my mom?” he asked.
I smiled, amused by his serious face. I couldn't be sure that I wouldn’t have wanted to know the same thing if a man had been sniffing up behind my mama. He had the right to know.
“Yes, I do. I like her a lot actually.”
He nodded his head. “Good. I like you too.”
The relief that came over me made me smile even bigger.
“Thank you, Theo. I appreciate that. I don’t think your mom would want me around if you didn’t like me.”
“Can you be my dad? I got a dad, but he’s been gone a long time.”
The way he looked up as he waited for my answer made a lump form in my throat. In any other situation, I would have wanted to talk to Shiloh before having this conversation. It would have been different if he hadn’t come to me first. I couldn’t turn him down. Even if Shiloh and I didn’t work out, I would still want to be there for him as long as he would have me.
When I was sure I wasn’t about to start crying, I rubbed the top of his head and replied, “I would be honored to be your dad, Theo. You’re a great kid.”
