“I’m awake.” She stifled a yawn behind her hand. “Almost. I’ll drink plenty of coffee. I can do this.”

There was a crash at the far end of the corridor, followed by several startled yells.

Dallin grabbed Sloane’s hand as aliens poured toward them.

“What the hell is going on?” He shielded Sloane behind him. She nudged past him and they stood shoulder to shoulder.

A short female Ocar almost collided with her, and Sloane grabbed her arm. “What’s happening?”

“There’s a rabid dog on the loose. It’s biting people.” The Ocar shoved past and raced away. “I’m getting out of here.”

Sloane looked up at Dallin. “More Siblet beasts?”

“It must be.” He caught hold of her arm. “I need to get you off this waystation immediately.”

“I’m staying. The Apocalypse will be here soon. I promise, I won’t get in your way if that’s your concern.”

He tapped the side of his head. “This will get in my way. I’ll keep thinking about you and not the antidote.”

Several loud, angry roars echoed along the corridor that led to the docking bay.

Sloane shook her head. “We should find somewhere out of the way of whatever that is.”

“I need to get you to the docking bay and onto a shuttle. I booked you a passage on one that’s leaving in ten minutes. I’ve arranged for you to meet the Apocalypse.”

“That shuttle will be overrun with aliens trying to get away from whatever is growling.”

“I’ve booked you a seat. You can still get on-board.”

“It’s too risky.” Sloane backed away as more aliens dashed past.

Dallin’s expression wavered for a second before he nodded. “Then I need to hide you somewhere.”

“No! That’s not what I meant.” She yelped as he opened a door and shoved her through it.

“This store room will do.” He did a quick glance around the room. “Block the door and let no one in.”

“Dallin! Don’t you dare leave me in here.”

“You’ll be safe. Just keep quiet and wait for the danger to pass.” He slammed the door and clicked the external lock into place.

Sloane jammed her hands on her hips, anger surging through her. “You have got to be kidding me? What gives him the right—”

A deep, rumbling growl sounded behind her, and her heart froze.
