Chapter 15

“Have you got your weapon?” Ash said to Georgia.

She didn’t look up as she checked through her equipment. “Of course.”

“Have you checked it?”

“Who do you think I am? A rookie who doesn’t know her way around a gun?” She slid him a glare, her desire flaring the second their eyes locked. Damn, he did that to her every time she looked at him.

Ash raised a hand and smiled. “I need to make sure my woman has everything she requires.”

The trickle of irritation Georgia felt vanished. Ash was always there, making sure she stayed safe. And he was the one who’d pushed for a relationship, when she just went after the physical, thinking it would be enough.

Falling for Ash had never been on the agenda, but that’s exactly what she’d done. And she was so happy she had.

Georgia turned away and focused on her equipment pack. “How about you? Have you checked your weapon? And what about the tracking equipment? We don’t want the battery to drain.”

He chuckled. “I get it. I’ll back off. I’m being, what did Daisy call me?”

“Don’t pretend you’ve forgotten. An alpha douche.”

“Yeah, and I don’t want that nickname to stick.”

She turned, walked over to him, and rested a hand against his firm chest. “You are an alpha. It’s in your nature. I knew what I was getting myself into when we got involved.”

“And you don’t mind?”

“How can I? We’re so similar. We both like to be in charge.”

Ash pulled her closer. “I never complain when you’re in charge in the bedroom.”

Her heart pounded. “Maybe it’s time we switch things up. You could go on top for once, just not all the time.”

He growled and bent to kiss her lips.

Georgia went to turn her head then stopped herself. Things were different between them now. She’d cracked the door open and let Ash in. This would be messy and complicated, but it was too late to turn back now.

His gaze met hers as his lips brushed softly against her mouth. “Are we good?”

She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him down for a long, slow kiss. “We’re good. Now, stop distracting me. We need to focus on this mission and make sure the Siblet scum don’t know what’s about to hit them.”

Hunter appeared in the doorway of the equipment room. “We’re wheels up in ten minutes. Are you both set?”

Georgia went to step away from Ash, but he kept his arm wrapped around her, so she had no choice but to make it clear they were together. She kind of loved it.

“We’re set,” she said.

Hunter grinned at them. “Great. And you should know, me and Cleo are on this mission. Orders from up top. Apparently, our wise leaders want their best people on this job.”

“And they asked for you?” Ash shook his head. “I figured your skills would be rusty after chasing after Cleo and pushing paper for her all the time.”

Hunter arched an eyebrow. “Yeah, that’s the last thing I do. We’re the reason you’re still alive. We make sure you don’t get your asses handed to you on a plate when you’re in the field.”

“You do kind of chase after her, though,” Ash said.

He shrugged. “Cleo’s in charge. I go where she tells me.”

“Which you clearly don’t hate doing.”
