Sinead shifted away from him. He was making out that they knew each other, but if they did, she couldn’t remember his name. “Oh, that was nothing. You should see me when I’m on top form.”
He chuckled and brushed a hand down her arm. “That I’d love to see. You know how to move those gorgeous hips of yours when you dance.”
“Did we dance together?”
“Hell, yes. You were grinding on me most of the night.”
She swallowed slowly, horrified because she couldn’t remember this. She was certain nothing had happened between them. He was messing with her. Sinead had dealt with this kind of guy before. If you were mean to them, they got mean back. Play the airhead and flirt, and you got out of the situation unharmed.
She gently eased his hand from her arm and fluttered her eyelashes. “A woman has to have some fun hobbies. It can’t all be work.”
“You’re right there. Although I couldn’t convince you to stay with me all night.” He leaned closer, and his coffee breath huffed in her face.
“A lady must have standards.” She’d never cheat on Talyn.
Sinead suppressed a groan. She shouldn’t care what he thought. If he’d seen her last night, he’d have been ashamed she was his mate. She’d flirted with everybody, male and female. It was her way of shutting down the conflict inside her. Life was too short to worry, but it sometimes felt like that was all she did. Lots of alcohol helped with those worries.
“I won’t give up. You will come out with me, just the two of us,” the guy said.
“Where’s the fun in that? I love the buzz of the Enchanted Captain.”
“Sure, but there’s only so much fun you can have in a public place.” He winked at her. “I’ll treat you real nice. Take you to dinner, whatever you like.”
“You cute thing. I might be taken.”
His gaze roved over her. “Doesn’t matter. I’d love to see what’s going on under that jumpsuit. I thought about that a lot last night.”
“Oh, you’re too kind.” Sinead kept the smile on her face, even though she wanted to leap out of her chair and run.
Her thoughts turned to Talyn again. Why was she even worrying about cheating on him? It shouldn’t bother her. They weren’t a couple. But somehow, the idea that she might have hurt him by behaving inappropriately last night pained her.
She gave a small shake of her head. She had to stay focused and brazen this guy out. She’d done nothing to be ashamed of. This was who she was, a good-time girl. Talyn was the idiot for not checking her out properly before he signed her to be his lifelong mate. This was his problem, not hers.
The guy stroked his fingers down a strand of her hair. “You know I have a solution for getting over a broken heart.”
She raised her eyebrows. “Whose heart’s been broken?”
“Yours! You kept talking about some guy. It sounds like he’s done a number on you.”
Sinead gasped. She didn’t remember talking about any guy last night. “Did I say his name?”
“Only about a hundred times. Honestly, it was getting boring. If you weren’t so gorgeous, I’d have walked away. This Talyn guy doesn’t know what he has. You’re well rid of him.” His coffee breath grazed her nose again. “Do you want to know what my solution is?”
Sinead barely nodded. She’d been talking about Talyn last night? Why would he be on her mind? They were done. She was moving on with or without his consent. Her mom was right. Their contract meant nothing.
A thud of worry slammed into her. She was an idiot for talking about him to strangers. Any relationship they had needed to remain a secret. If word got back to Diadora that she’d screwed up so badly with Talyn, it would all be over for her.
“You’re killing me,” the guy said. “My solution to your broken heart is this: The quickest way to get over somebody is to get under a new guy. I’m willing and able whenever you want. You slide right under me, and I’ll screw your cares away. By the end of the night, you won’t even remember this idiot’s name because you’ll be too busy screaming mine.”
Sinead cleared her throat. “Wow, that such a generous offer. What’s a lovely guy like you offering himself to me for? You must have loads of girls chasing you.” With cheesy lines like that, she doubted that very much.
He caught hold of her chin. “Don’t tease me. I had enough of that last night. You grind away on me and dance off when things get hot. A man can only stand so much teasing before he snaps.”
His fingers tightened on her chin, and Sinead saw meanness lurking in this guy’s eyes. “You can stand a little more teasing, hot stuff. It will be worth the wait.”
His eyes narrowed, but he dropped his hold on her chin. “It had better be. And don’t let me find out you’ve gone running back to this Talyn guy. You said last night it’s over. Time to move on. Whenever you’re ready for fun, you know where to find me.”
Sinead knew this guy was only after one thing. He’d seen someone he considered an easy target, someone he could use and throw away when he’d gotten what he wanted. There’d be no way she’d see him again.
