He was tall and lean, his gaze flicking over everything around him but reacting to nothing. His expression was curiously blank for a Lillip. Their faces were usually full of emotion as they processed everything and filtered out overwhelming sensations. But even from this distance, Sinead saw nothing in his eyes.
She hid a flutter of irritation as he took his sweet time walking down the ramp and over to her group.
Sinead waited until he was close enough to hear before beginning. “Welcome to Prodigy. I’m Sinead Murphy. I’ll be looking after you during your time here.”
“Greetings, Sinead. I’m Broge. This is my group. We look forward to using the services of My Single Alien.” The tall, broad-chested Mehab who’d been the first to emerge from the ship nodded at her.
“That’s great to hear,” Sinead said. “I’m sure I can find you all true love.”
The Mehabs nudged each other and grinned.
Sinead noticed the Lillip stood to one side, his hands clasped and head lowered. Perhaps he was shy. “First things first, I’ll show you to your accommodation, and you can settle in. You’ll have an orientation day tomorrow and see some of the women available to you. After that, if you’re happy, you can sign to My Single Alien, and we can find you your perfect match.”
Broge looked around the group, and everyone nodded.
“If you’d like to follow me, your bags will be brought to your rooms.” This looked like an easy job. These Mehabs were keen to find their females. Mehabs could be a little rough, but this bunch looked like pussy cats.
Sinead led the way, pointing out the facilities on the station as they walked. She showed them the dining hall, the lounge, and communal viewing areas. She moved into the living quarters and deposited each Mehab into their allocated room.
When she turned, she was left with only the Lillip. “I didn’t catch your name,” Sinead said as she walked along the corridor with him.
“I’m Talyn Dazan.”
“Lovely to meet you, Talyn. Are you looking forward to finding love?”
“I’m sure you know what you’re doing.”
Sinead winced at the flat tone he used. It sounded like Talyn was anything but excited about meeting his future mate and discovering love. “It can be intimidating, finding your perfect match.”
“Are you in love?”
Sinead’s cheeks warmed. “Erm, actually, no.”
Talyn shrugged. “We can couple. Get this over with.”
“That’s flattering.” It was anything but, but she had to stay on the potential client’s good side. “You’re a handsome guy. You’ll make someone happy.” At least, he would if he learned to crack a smile. Talyn was here to find love, not march in front of a firing squad.
Talyn snorted and raised his eyes to the ceiling.
Sinead had never met a grumpy Lillip. Being cold and miserable didn’t suit those lovely dark eyes. She tried again. “Women will be charmed by those expressive eyes.”
“My eyes aren’t expressive.” Talyn glanced at her. “Do you like my eyes?”
“Sure. Windows to the soul, that’s what I was told when growing up. To know a person properly, you have to stare into their eyes.”
“Don’t do that. You won’t like what my soul shows you,” Talyn said.
Sinead jerked her head back. There was something off about Talyn. He was an attractive guy, just her type looks-wise, but he had an attitude. And the way he spoke, it was flat. It seemed like he was struggling to get words out of his mouth.
“I’d like to get this over with,” Talyn said. “If you’re available, we can make the arrangements today.”
“You need time to make such a big decision. Let’s talk tomorrow after you’ve settled in. You’ve had a long journey.”
“I haven’t. The wormhole doesn’t take much time to get through. I’d like to get this done.”
“I appreciate your enthusiasm, but it’s best you spend time here and get to know the place. You’ll be here all week, so there’s no rush. You need to be sure this is right for you.” And the poor female who’d be saddled to this cute but miserable Lillip. He needed to lighten up.
Talyn sighed and rubbed his forehead. “Whatever you think best.”
