“Is something wrong?” Vegas asked as she settled in her seat.
“Forgive us; we did not realize you were with these ladies.”
They both turned and hurried away.
Heather laughed. “It seems like Solan’s reputation makes you one hundred percent off-limits to every other alien.”
Vegas grinned as she took a sip of her drink. “As it should be. Because I’m one hundred percent his. He doesn’t need to keep menacing any alien that looks at me, though. He has nothing to worry about. I only have eyes for him and his sexy muscles.”
Nell grabbed her drink and took a large gulp. “You don’t mind? You don’t find it stifling that he tells everybody to keep their hands off?”
Vegas shrugged. “Not really. It’s in his nature. Galaxars are warriors and protectors. I knew what I was getting myself into when I signed up to be his mate. I regret nothing. Even if it does irk a bit, the orgasms more than make up for it.”
Heather snorted her drink across the table as she laughed. “I can’t argue with that.”
“Don’t you feel as if he treats you like an object, rather than a person with her own free will?” Nell twirled her drink straw.
Vegas sat her drink down and stared at Nell. “Not for a second. He never does that. He’s the most respectful guy I’ve ever been with. He beats human guys hands-down. We had a few issues in the beginning when he kept getting all alpha alien on me, but we adjusted to each other. We fit well.”
Nell took another big gulp of drink. That kind of relationship felt stifling. Aliens were so weird with their ultra-possessive behavior around their mates. She tried to understand. Most of them had no other option but to use the services of My Single Alien, but they didn’t have to get all macho about their mate once they had her.
“Speak of the devil,” Heather said.
Nell raised her head and held in a sigh as she saw Solan and his friend Padam walk into the bar.
“I didn’t know he was coming here tonight.” Vegas hopped up and waved to get his attention.
She needn’t have bothered. Galaxars had enhanced scent tracking abilities. He’d probably followed Vegas’s smell from out in the corridor.
Nell repressed a grimace and looked away. It wasn’t that she didn’t like Solan; he was decent enough. She just didn’t want to see Vegas and Solan all over each other. It made her skin crawl.
Vegas made room for Solan and Padam after they got their drinks. She settled herself on Solan’s lap. Padam sat between Nell and Heather.
Nell gritted her teeth as she discreetly slid away from Padam. Feeling the heat of his body so close made her sweat and not in a hot guy alert way.
“How’s the matchmaking going?” Padam asked. “Did lots of happy aliens find their true love today?” He addressed the question to Nell, but she pretended not to hear.
Heather kicked her under the table. “We’ve got a busy week. Lots of new aliens coming in. We’re not sure how we’re going to keep up.”
“I guess that means I’m not getting my mate anytime soon,” Padam said, his frown overly exaggerated.
“We’ll do our best. I didn’t think you were looking,” Heather said.
“Padam has permission to seek a mate,” Solan said.
“Thanks for that, boss,” Padam said wryly.
Solan nodded. “You have served your time in space. We all have to wait to get our reward.” He pulled Vegas closer to him and whispered something in her ear only she could hear. Whatever it was, it made her smile.
“What do you think, Nell?” Padam said. “Can you find me someone suitable with your enviable matchmaking skills?”
“We can find you somebody.” Nell forced herself to look at him. Padam was a wall of solid muscle, a born fighter. His skin was a glossy dark bronze and his dark hair cropped short against his head. He was less alpha alien than Solan, but that was because he wasn’t so high up in the Galaxar military hierarchy. He also liked to talk about his feelings, which was strange. Galaxars were not known for sharing their deepest emotions.
“I’d like someone like Vegas,” Padam said.
That comment earned him a growl from Solan.
Padam laughed. “Relax, I don’t mean I want Vegas. I want someone who has her own life, someone with her own interests. You have a lot of interests, don’t you, Nell?”
