“Of course they do. These auctions are run by aliens who take no notice of the rules.”
“Is everything good on your ship, beautiful? Have you got things under control?” Karn asked.
“Get out of here, loser,” Marcus snapped as he leaned over the control panel. “She’s got me now.”
“You’ll get him annoyed,” Ivy cautioned. “Karn needs to think I’m coming back, or he’ll keep chasing us.”
Marcus shrugged. “That alien is chasing after you like some three-legged stray. You’d better put him out of his misery before you ruin his life just like you did mine.”
Ivy took a steadying breath and stared out the window as she spoke to Karn. “Keep the bed warm for me. I’ll see you soon.”
“You got it, babe.”
Marcus watched the panel showing the other ships. “It looks like your boyfriend is bailing out. That’s the best idea he’s ever had. I wanted to test out the weapons on this ship. They sure look fancy.”
Concern coiled around Ivy’s spine. “You won’t shoot his ship.”
“I would if I knew how to use the weapons.” Marcus sank into the seat next to Ivy. “It’s time for us to get out of here and make me some money.”
Ivy leaned closer to the control panel. She’d never said these words to any guy. “I love you.”
“Love you more,” Karn said brightly. “Missing you already.”
“That’s enough.” Marcus cut the comm link. “Let’s see if lover boy makes good on his word and gets the hell out of here, for your safety.”
Ivy slumped back in her seat. All she could do was hope Karn understood. If he didn’t, she’d be served up to whatever alien wanted her.
