She nodded like we’d just finished a meeting.
My phone lit up with a message from Quest. Will, our interviewee, was here.
I got Dream comfortable on the couch so she wouldn’t try climbing out of my chair on her own. One of the staff came in to sit with her while I went down to Quest’s office.
“I’ll be right back.”
“Can I have a snack?”
“It’s in your bag. Choose between the fruit snacks or Cheez-Its. I don’t want you getting full on junk before you have lunch.”
She was already looking inside when I left.
Prime was standing near Quest’s desk when I walked in. Will Seymour got up from his chair to shake my hand.
“This is Big Will,” Quest introduced.
“Justice. Appreciate you making the time,” Big Will greeted.
“Good to meet you.”
Chubby and standing at about 6’3, the name fit. This nigga had to be over 300 lbs. I know that feed bill was crazy as hell. We were going to have to keep an eye on his big ass and make sure that he wasn’t at the restaurant pillaging the all-you-can-eat buffet.
Quest made the introductions and got straight to it.
“Tell us what you think you can do with this fight.”
Will leaned forward for his folder on the desk.
“First, I think you got more here than just one event. You have the casino, rooms, food, everything somebody needs to make a weekend out of it. I’ve had success doing this in Vegas. The fight brings them through the door. You give them reasons to stay.”
He passed over information on events he’d worked on. I looked through the figures while Prime asked about his role in each one.
Will answered without getting offended. He seemed to understand we weren’t hiring him because he knew how to put together a folder. We needed him to be able to back up all his claims.
“What were you responsible for on this one?” Prime asked, tapping a page.
“Promotion and sponsorships. I worked with the venue on ticket sales, too. The contact’s listed there. He’ll tell you.”
Prime nodded and kept reading.
Will turned toward me.
“This could put the Banks Grand on the map bigger than Madison Square Garden, Barclays, or the MGM in Vegas. Which of course puts this town on the map… eventually Freetown.”
I looked up from the folder.
“You came in here swinging.”
He laughed.
“I believe in what I’m selling.”
“Good. Because that’s a hell of a promise.”
“You already have the name. I’m talking about building the fight business around it.”
Quest sat back.
