“Don’t worry, Prince, the entire car is bulletproof,” I tell him, leaning over his body to pin him between my arms and the seat. “You’re fine.”
Björn slams his foot onto the accelerator, and the tires squeal against the pavement.
CLACK! CLACK!
Two bullets hit the window.
“Stay down,” I order Cillian, reaching into my holster to draw my weapon.
I open the window just enough to create a two-inch gap, stick the barrel out, and fire at the car trailing us, hitting one of the shooters leaning out the window.
“Alexios, report!”
Alexios’s voice comes from the Hummer’s radio. “We’re right behind them! Three black Audis, tinted windows, no tags.”
CLA-CLA-CLA-CLA-CLACK!
Jesus Christ!
“You think it’s the same cleanup crew from Venezuela?” Leif asks, while his twin drives left to take a turn on the mountain road.
“Must be.” I point at the driver of the closest car and shoot.
The bullet hits, but the glass doesn’t shatter.
“Fuck, they’re bulletproof.”
“Here, Knox, take my baby.” Björn twists around, handing me his CheyTac.
I take the thirty-pound, fifty-six-inch monstrosity and grunt. “The fuck, Björn? How could you drive with this thing on you?”
“What can I say? I’m used to having large things between my thighs.” He winks in the rearview, and Leif bursts out laughing.
“Cil, I need you to get down on the floor between the seats.” I pat his back, and he moves immediately.
I pull a lever that Björn installed on the Hummer, and a special compartment opens on the roof. I chamber a round in the CheyTac, take a deep breath, and push out.
It takes them a couple of seconds to realize what I’m doing, but a few seconds is all the time I need.
I aim at the driver and shoot.
THUMP-CRASH!
The bullet shatters the windshield, and I dive back in just in time to dodge the rain of bullets they fire at me.
Whoa… that was close.
I look back and see their lead car swerve and flip.
One down, two to go.
CLA-CLA-CLA-CLA-CLACK!
Shards of glass fall as the side windows begin to crack.
“Fuck!” I lean forward, covering Cillian with my body. “Björn, the windows won’t hold much longer! You need to lose them!”
“I have an idea,” he says, swerving into the woods.
