I shake my head again, terrified that touching the memory will drag me straight back into it.
“Okay.”
No pushing. No questions.
“Then tell me something else.”
I look around us and finally realise what he’s done.
“I’m all wet!”
A laugh bursts out of me as I look down at myself.
Then I stop.
Oh.
Oh shit.
White nightgown.
No bra.
Wet white nightgown.
Jude follows my gaze.
“Fuck.”
His head snaps up so fast I almost laugh again, his eyes fixing somewhere safely over my shoulder.
I immediately step out of his arms and cross mine over my chest.
“Well, that’s not exactly how I planned on greeting you this morning.” I laugh, trying to lighten the mood.
Nothing.
Jude keeps staring somewhere behind me, his jaw tight enough that I can see the muscle ticking.
“Grumpy, it’s okay.” I shrug even though I’m so embarrassed I want the sea to open up and swallow me whole.
“Let’s get inside and change.” That’s all he says before turning and starting back toward the house.
I frown as I watch him go, hating whatever just wiped the smile off his face.
“So are you still up for Vespas and caves?” I yell after him.
He keeps walking for another few steps before turning around and giving me a thumbs-up.
I smile.
There he is.
“You’re sure you know how to drive this thing?”
Jude looks offended.
I bite my lip to keep from laughing.
