Simple.
Then I see Jude.
Oh.
He's standing a few feet away talking to Dex, wearing a white button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled to his elbows and light linen pants. His hair is still wet from the shower, darker than usual and pushed back messily from his forehead.
And apparently I need a second to look at him.
Maybe two.
There's something different about seeing him like this. I'm used to Jude in jeans and boots, cowboy hats and T-shirts, dirt on his hands and that permanently grumpy expression while he works with the horses.
This Jude looks—
I stop that thought before it gets anywhere. Of course that's exactly when his eyes find mine and the corner of his mouth lifts.
Shit.
I look away.
“Drinks,” I announce.
Lexy turns toward me. “Yes.”
“I'll get them.”
“We can come with you,” Dex says.
I wave him off. “Sit. All of you. I'm the only one who speaks Italian.”
Chiara clears her throat loudly.
I look at her.
“The only useful one who speaks Italian.”
“Vaffanculo.”
“Love you too.”
She laughs and drops onto one of the cushions beside Lexy.
“What does everyone want?”
The next thirty seconds are complete chaos. Lexy wants something fruity but not too sweet. Dex says beer until Lexy informs him he can drink beer in Wyoming and orders him something else. Chiara wants a mojito.
Jude says he doesn't care.
Which is incredibly helpful.
“Fine. I'm choosing for you.”
“Trust you.”
My eyes flick to his.
It's only two words, and still something warm moves through my chest.
