“Tell them I accept,” he says easily, and I blink at my laptop.

“Umm, we can counter.”

“Do you think they’ll budge?” he asks, and I rub my lips together. I don’t, but Linda did say the sister is determined to sell, so she might be able to convince her brother.

“I’m not sure, but it never hurts to try.”

“What are you thinking?” he asks, surprising me, and I give him my idea of paying half the fees and giving ten thousand in earnest money instead of the twenty they asked for.

“All right, if you think that’s the way to go, let’s do that.”

“Okey doke,” I mutter, honestly thankful that he’s being so cool about this whole thing when most people would not.

“Do you need anything else from me?” he asks, and I swear I hear a hint of a smile in his voice.

“Nope, that’s it. I’ll be sending you over a couple documents to sign as soon as I get them written up, then I’ll message after I send them over.”

“Sounds good, talk to you later.” He hangs up, and I look over at my mom.

“He agreed to my counter but said if they come back again to give them what they want.”

“He really likes that house.”

“Apparently,” I mutter, and she smiles.

“Do you need my help with anything?”

“Nope, I got it, thanks.” I turn back to my laptop and type up the counteroffer, then email it over to Wyatt to sign before I send him a text message letting him know that I sent it.

As I’m working on adding all my information to my family’s real estate agency’s website, my phone rings. Picking it up, my stomach twists when I see it’s Wyatt.

“Did you get the documents?” I ask in greeting.

“I got the email but can’t access them on my cell. Is there another way to sign?”

“Do you have a computer available?”

“Not at the moment. I set up a speed trap out on Love Hurst, so I’m in my patrol car.”

“So I should avoid that road. Good to know,” I say without thinking, and he chuckles. “The documents can wait; we have twenty-four hours to get back to them with our counter.”

“I’d rather get this over with; is there a way you could bring me a hard copy to sign?”

“Umm.” I look at the clock. I’m supposed to be meeting with another possible client in about an hour, which gives me plenty of time to meet him and have him sign.

Darn.

“Genevieve.” Gah, I really wish he wouldn’t say my name, because I really like it when he says my name.

“Yeah, sure, let me just get the stuff printed, and I’ll meet you.”

“Thanks.” He hangs up, and I look over at my mom when I feel her staring at me. “I’m going to go meet Wyatt to have him sign since he can’t get the documents opened on his phone.”

“Sure, honey,” she says with a smile that sets off alarm bells in my head.

“What is that smile?”

“What smile?” she asks, her smile getting bigger.
