“I didn’t say I was celibate, Genevieve. I said that no one has spent the night.”

“So you’re a hit-’em-and-quit-’em kind of guy?”

“I wouldn’t say that.”

“What would you say?”

“That being with someone when you’re in your most vulnerable state comes with a level of trust that no one has earned from me.”

Letting my hand go, she rolls toward me before reaching for my hand again. “Are you not going to sleep?”

“I am.” I adjust my pillow while I swear I hear the wheels in her head spinning, but surprising me, she doesn’t say anything but “Night, Wyatt.”

“Night, baby.” I lie there for a long time just listening to the sound of her breathing before I let my eyes slide closed. I honestly don’t expect to fall asleep. Like I said, it’s been years since a woman has slept in my bed with me, but before I know it, I must pass out, because when I wake it’s to the light from outside peeking through the closed curtains. It takes me a second to come to terms with our position, that sometime in the night we closed the space between us and both ended up in the middle of the bed, her body tucked into the curve of mine, her ass pressed back into my hips, my face buried in her hair. It might have been years since I slept with a woman, but I have never slept wrapped around one in my life, not even my ex. Not wanting to wake her or for her to feel just how fucking hard I am, I pull my hips back and carefully drag my arm out from under her head and roll to my back. After adjusting my dick, which is throbbing, I get out of bed and walk across the hall to the bathroom and go through my morning routine, then head to the kitchen with Storm on my heels.

Since I’m up before my alarm goes off, I have a little over two hours before I need to get dressed and head to work, way more time than I normally have when I have an early shift. After I put down Storm’s food, I start the coffee I set up last night and try to think of what I should make for breakfast. Any other morning I’d just toss some stuff in the blender and call it a day, but I don’t want to risk waking Genevieve before her alarm. While I’m standing in front of the open pantry with a mug of coffee, trying to figure out what I’m going to make, I hear a noise behind me and turn to watch Genevieve walk into the kitchen.

“Morning.” She smiles at me, then reaches down to pat the top of Storm’s head when he wanders over to say hello.

“Did you sleep okay?” I ask as she eyes me, almost seeming nervous, which is not like her. She’s always seemed so self-assured.

“Yeah, you?”

“Yeah.” I let my eyes wander over her. I doubt she regularly goes to bed in sweats and a T-shirt, but she looks adorable in the clothes that are a few sizes too big, with her hair down and zero makeup on her face. “Hungry?”

“I usually just pick up something in town on my way to work.” Her eyes drop to my hand when I hold it out in her direction. When she is close enough, I pull her into my arms, and she looks up at me, resting her hands against my chest. “Do you cook breakfast every morning?”

“No, usually just a protein shake. You want one?”

“Does it taste like chalk?”

“No.” I lift my hand and touch my fingertips to her jaw. “Peanut butter and banana.”

“That sounds good.”

“What time do you gotta leave?”

“Soon. I need to get home and get dressed, do my makeup and hair, then drive out to Lavender Hill. I’m letting in the inspector, and I kinda want to hang around while he’s going over things to make sure he’s checking the things that could lead to the biggest money problems down the road.”

“I’m after the land the house sits on. I’m not real concerned about the house, baby.”

“You will be concerned if you have to spend twenty thousand on a new roof.”

“If I have something big like that come up, I’ll take your advice and get a second job at Sticky’s.”

“Look at you making jokes!” She leans into me with a bright smile, and I can’t help myself any longer—I dip down and capture her mouth with mine. When she curls her hands up around the back of my neck, my cock comes to life, and our tongues tangle together while I grab her jaw and tip her head farther to the side to take the kiss deeper.

“Wyatt,” she whispers, digging her nails into my skin as I back her up against the counter and trail my lips and teeth down the soft column of her throat. I don’t know what kind of lotion or perfume she uses, but she tastes sweet and smells so fucking good I’d have her for breakfast if I knew there was time.

After hefting her ass up onto the counter, I yank her toward me, listening to her gasps, and take her mouth again while her legs wrap around my hips. I thought I was hard before, I thought I knew what it felt like to be hard, but as I feel the heat of her pussy through the thin material of our clothes and her soft body pressed against mine, I swear I’m on the edge of losing it like I haven’t done since I was a fourteen-year-old kid.

Getting her hand between us and down the front of my sweats, she wraps her fist around my cock. “Oh my god, you’re so big.” She breathes against my mouth while I groan. “You’re never going to fit inside me.”

“Believe me, baby, I’ll make sure I fit.” I bite her bottom lip and pull my hips back. “But there is no time for that right now, and if you keep grabbing my dick like that, I’m going to come all over your hand.”

“Are you being serious?” She pouts.

“Do you gotta be at work?”
