“Fuck,” Uriel hissed. “They found him.”

The alphas stiffened. “What?”

“Stop the car,” Uriel said, hasty fingers unclipping Cassie from around his chest. “Traffic’s slowing us down. I need to open the door.”

Jorvik changed lanes and pulled into a parking lot, car horns blaring behind them.

Bruiser was in the backseat with him, so Uriel shoved Cassie into his arms. “Watch her.”

Then he grabbed his broom, threw himself out of the car, and he was in the air.

ARE WE BOYFRIENDS?

Uriel was thankful for the maps he had studied on the way here. He found the landmarks he needed to pinpoint Fenn’s location, angling his broom into a nosedive.

Already, he could see the kidnappers jogging into Fenn’s building. He cast an invisibility spell on himself, landing so hard on the sidewalk that his feet hurt. But that didn’t matter. He rushed into the building.

Invisibility was no honorable way to fight. It helped him take down the alphas easily though. Uriel approached the alphas from behind, quietly, and dropped them one by one.

Somewhere upstairs, a baby cried.

Uriel’s rage flared. He sprinted toward the gruff voices and followed them to an apartment with an open door, where five men surrounded Fenn. Fenn was pale and panicking, a wailing bundle clutched in his arms.

Uriel acted without thinking. He shoved his palm against the closest alpha’s back, sending a spike of magic straight into his heart. The man collapsed, but Uriel was already moving, the other alphas pointing their guns wildly in his direction.

He ducked just in case they fired, dropping a second kidnapper, then a third.

The furthest kidnapper grabbed Fenn by the neck and snarled, “Freeze, or I’ll kill him.”

Before Uriel could move, Fenn twisted himself away from the kidnapper. The alpha grabbed at him; somewhere in the confusion, Fenn tripped and hit his head against the wall, falling bonelessly onto the floor.

Uriel’s blood froze. He took down the last two kidnappers and hurried over to his friend, scooping him off the floor. “Fenn, you okay?”

Fenn blinked and squinted. “Uriel? Am I imagining things?”

“No. Let’s get you out of here.”

Uriel scooped Fenn easily into his arms. This part of his altered body, he couldn’t begrudge.

He carried Fenn and his baby out of the apartment, dropped the invisibility spell, then recast it in case they met more kidnappers on the way down.

“Uriel,” Fenn mumbled, grabbing his shirt. “I think Xenowen’s involved in this.”

Uriel almost stumbled. “Fuck.”

He could perform a magic-scrubbing spell, but that would take too much time. What if Xenowen showed up before the spell was complete?

Uriel was so distracted that he almost crashed into Jorvik, spinning on his heel just in time. “Jorvik! We’re here, just invisible.”

The alpha turned toward his voice, trying to see them. “You guys okay?”

“Don’t know. Fenn hit his head. I took down the kidnappers but you might want to check on them.”
