“What does that mean?” she asked.

“It means he plans our routes, organizes runs, and annoys me professionally,” Mayhem grumbled.

Riot’s crooked grin appeared. “Mayhem and I have been annoying each other for a long time.” Delaney looked between them again. She was too perceptive, and that worried Mayhem.

“I’ll wait outside,” Riot said. He disappeared before Mayhem could respond, and his absence left the room feeling strangely empty.

Doc examined Delaney’s pupils before cleaning the cut along her temple. She endured his questions quietly, admitting to dizziness, nausea, and pain along her left side. “How long were you held?” Doc asked.

“I don’t know,” she admitted.

“Hours? Days?” he asked.

“Four days, I think,” she said.

Mayhem went completely still, and Doc glanced at him before returning his attention to Delaney. “Do you remember losing consciousness at any point?”

“The first night,” she said.

“What about after that?” he asked.

“I tried not to. I was too afraid of what they’d do to me if I was unconscious,” she admitted.

“Did they give you anything?” he asked.

“Water and some soup.” Her fingers twisted in the hem of Mayhem’s vest, which still hung around her shoulders. “One of them tried to make me take a pill, but I spit it out after he left.” Mayhem’s thoughts turned violent. Doc continued the examination. Delaney had at least two cracked ribs, a badly sprained ankle, dehydration, and multiple cuts and bruises. Doc wanted her taken to a hospital for X-rays and a scan to rule out internal injuries, but she refused.

“I can’t go anywhere they could find me,” she insisted.

“We can place men at the hospital to guard you,” Mayhem said.

“No,” she breathed.

“You might have internal bleeding.”

“I said no,” she spat. Mayhem opened his mouth to argue, and Doc shook his head. It was her decision. Mayhem hated it, but after having every choice stolen from her for four days, she deserved control over what happened to her body.

“All right,” he said. “No hospital.” Some of the fear left her eyes.

Doc cleaned the remaining cuts and wrapped her ankle. When he needed to examine her ribs, Mayhem turned his back to give her privacy. He found Riot waiting in the hall. His former lover leaned against the opposite wall with his ankles crossed. “Four days,” Mayhem said quietly. “I overheard.” Riot shrugged.

Mayhem looked toward the closed door. “They thought she knew something about a ledger and a shipment.”

“Drugs?” Riot asked.

“Maybe,” Mayhem said. “Could be weapons or people, though.” Mayhem’s jaw tightened. That possibility had occurred to him on the ride back to the clubhouse.

Riot pushed away from the wall. “Monster is on his way.”

“Where was he?” Mayhem asked.

“Home with Blitz and Drifter. He’ll be here in ten minutes.” Monster was in a committed relationship with Blitz and Drifter. They share their woman, and seemed to make their poly relationship work so well that two other brothers—Ghost and Hammer decided to put a woman between them. “You get a plate number?”

“No,” Mayhem said.

“Description of the vehicles?” Riot asked.

“Black SUV. Late-model pickup. Dark blue or black. It was hard to see in the dark,” he admitted.
