Shadows.
Something.
My heart started beating harder.
Come on.
I’d waited a year.
Someone grabs my arm, and I look to see its Charlie. I forgot he was even beside me.
I look back to the crowd.
Nothing.
Someone runs across the grass.
Wrong mask.
I kept looking.
Charlie says something to me, but I didn’t hear him.
Because, suddenly-
Tap.
I froze.
It hadn’t come from behind me.
I looked towards the attractions.
Another tap.
My pulse jumped.
My eyes kept searching around.
Tap.
The sound came from the glass wall of the game booth across the midway.
I turned.
Nothing.
Only my reflection beneath the red lights.
Then the fog shifted.
A figure stood on the other side of the glass.
Black clothes.
Mask.
My breath caught.
