Lips pursed to keep a laugh at bay, she nods. “One of them.”
Right…
I’d read about the three mysterious men who run Valdrich Industries. There’s one who’s the face of the company, but rarely photographed; one who runs the finances, whom I had a run-in with the other day; and one who’s never seen. Shit, I couldn’t even find his name.
Come to think of it, I don’t think I found good mentions of any of them, but I was too excited to worry about who ran the company, and I was even more eager to escape everything that was nipping at my heels back home.
“Come on. It won’t be too bad. You’re not in any trouble or anything like that. Though I will have a position to fill again.” She sighs, and my heart races as I try to keep up.
Thank God I’d had the forethought to wear flats today, because Aria’s on a mission to get whatever this meeting is over with.
Bursting through her door, Aria takes a seat in front of her desk, and when my eyes stutter up to the man with his hands steepled atop her desk, I swallow a regretful moan that tries to escape.
It’s the man from the elevator.
As if he knows I just put it all together, he smiles.
When I sit, I press my thighs unbearably close together to quell the little throb between them, the little throb that’s enlivened by his presence and a reminder of last week’s elevator rendezvous.
“Ms. Thomas, is it? I’m Kyrin Valdrich. It’s a pleasure.” His proffered hand is massive, and veins run through it, the likes of which I’d love to explore like a road map to…
I shake off the thought, trying like hell to tamp down my reaction before sliding my hand into his.
“Nice to see you again, Mr. Valdrich.”
He scoffs, landing back on his ass in Aria’s chair as she lifts a brow at me. “Mr. Valdrich is my brother. Kyrin will do.”
“Kyrin,” I say, a bit more whimsically than I’d meant to, which pulls a reaction from him.
He clears his throat, his pupils blown wide as he moves paperwork around on Aria’s desk as if it’s his own.
Aria’s currently looking between the two of us like we’ve lost our fucking minds, and I know that later, she’s going to want all the juicy details of whatever the fuck this energy between us is.
Kyrin clears his throat. “It’s come to my attention that you’ve quickly become a favorite around here and are very adept at handling large quantities of work without becoming distressed. Is that right?”
“I don’t know if I’d say I’m a favorite,” I start.
Aria butts in, “No, but I’ll say it. She is, and I really have to reiterate that I don’t want to lose her.”
“I won’t be shackling her in a basement somewhere, Aria. If you need her, or want to see her, you know where the estate is.”
The estate?
“Excuse me, sir. What do you mean, the estate?”
His back stiffens, and I note it as odd, but shove the thought away as he deflates back into normal posture.
“I have a job opportunity for you, Ms. Thomas.”
“Sera, please. If we’re being informal.”
“Sera.” his tongue curls around my name like it’s trying to get every fallen drop of ice cream from the rim of a cone on a hot summer’s day.
Blush fills my cheeks, and I watch his eyes take notice.
Aria clears her throat, clearly affected by whatever this is.
“A job opportunity where I’d be working at an estate?” I ask, breaking the seething tension.
