A shiver runs up my spine at that, bone-chillingly cold. I know he wants to feed on me but don’t realize he has the urge to kill me, too.
He chuckles. “The urge to kill comes with it.”
Wait, did he just read my thoughts?
Cyrus’s body grows tense behind me before he shoots off the bed, staring at me as he stands on the side of the bed.
“Wait, you didn’t say that?” he asks, eyeing me.
I roll on my back, looking up at him. “No, I thought it,” I tell him.
He paces. “I shouldn’t be able to hear you. I don’t hear Eli. Why can I hear you now? I couldn’t before,” he starts rambling.
“What are you talking about?”
“I can hear your thoughts, Addie. That’s why.”
“That’s a bad thing?”
I’m not even aware he can hear other people’s thoughts. I’m so glad he couldn’t before, especially with some of the dirty thoughts I had when meeting them.
Shit, don’t think that. Did he hear that?
Cyrus chuckles. “Well, I know them now,” he says, shaking his head with laughter.
My face flushes. “Wait. If you can hear everyone’s thoughts, how hasn’t that sent you mad?” My inner monologue is enough to drive me crazy, let alone listen to everyone else’s.
“I block it out. I always block it out. I don’t need to block anything around you and Eli because I normally can’t hear either of you. You’re immune to it because we are mates,” he says before pausing and staring at me.
“I need to leave. I need to figure this out,” he says, looking at me worriedly.
He rushes over, putting his hand on my head. I moan at his touch, the heat coming back.
“Well, the bond is still working. I shouldn’t be able to hear you,” he mutters. “Do you feel different?”
I raise an eyebrow at him. “Nope, feel the same as yesterday.” I
He rubs his chin. “Something isn’t right. This isn’t right.”
“I just don’t see why it is a bad thing. If anything, it’s embarrassing for me, knowing you can hear me, but I don’t think it’s actually a bad thing. Unless I was plotting against you or leaving because that would go out the window now.” I laugh.
Cyrus doesn’t laugh; instead, he just stares at me. “You’re going to leave?”
“What, no. I was just saying if I was, you would know. Besides, I haven’t left the apartment in three days. What makes you think that is going to change? I’m not leaving until Sam is found.”
Chapter 7
• Eli •
This is a bad idea. Why the hell did I agree to help her? I just can’t believe this shit. Three hundred and fifty fucking years, and she just lets him back in her life. Emery has purchased a new apartment building, and I’m fine helping her move her belongings over to it. I’m not prepared for a fucking family reunion, though. Dropping a box on her desk, she comes rushing behind me, closing the door.
“Look, I know you’re pissed off.”
“Is this why you asked me to fucking help?” I snap at her, knowing she has pack members who would have willingly obliged.
“What, no. I wanted to spend time with you. I didn’t think he was going to show. He only got here yesterday.”
“And you’re just going to let him back in your life after three hundred and fifty years, Emery? Have you forgotten what he did? I can’t believe you.”
