“And?”
His hand settles over mine. “I spent ten years wanting somebody to believe me.” He looks back at me. “Then you did.”
My heart breaks. I climb into his lap.
His hands immediately settle at my waist.
“So you don’t care?” I ask.
“Didn’t say that.”
“Then what are you saying?”
“I’m saying it mattered more when you believed me before there was proof,” he says.
I kiss him with soft, tender strokes.
Dane pulls me back when I try to move away.
“Where are you going?”
“Coffee.”
“No.”
“We have work.”
“No.”
“Dane.”
“Lila.” His mouth finds mine again.
I laugh against it. “The whole town just found out you’re innocent.”
“Yeah.”
“You don’t want to celebrate?”
His hand slides along my back. “That’s what I’m doing.”
I smile. “Coffee first.”
“Bad wife.”
“Bossy husband.”
“Mine.” The word should annoy me but instead I love it.
“Unfortunately,” I tease him.
His eyes narrow.
I squeal when he flips me beneath him.
I guess the coffee can wait.
Brody leaves Devil’s Peak two days later.
