His mouth twitches. “You’re jealous again.”
“I wasn’t jealous the first time.”
“Sure.”
“Were there girlfriends?”
“No.”
“None?”
“No.”
“Why?”
His amusement disappears. He takes a drink. “Don’t trust people enough to keep them.”
The answer is so simple I almost miss what he’s saying.
“But you trust me enough to marry me?”
“Contract.”
“Right.”
His gaze turns from the fire to look at me. “What about you?”
“What about me?”
“Men.”
I pick up my whiskey. “There’ve been men.”
“That’s vague.”
I glare at him.
He almost smiles. “Boyfriends?”
“One.”
“How long?”
“Eight months.”
“Sleep with him?”
I choke on my whiskey.
Dane doesn’t react.
“You can’t just ask me that.”
“You asked me.”
“I asked if you’d had girlfriends.”
“You asked how many women I’ve slept with.”
