Auctioned to the Outlaw

by Aria Cole

“Don’t care about every woman.”

Her breath catches. I want to kiss her. Been wanting to since long before she became my wife. Before the auction. Before the contract. Before she stood in front of half of Devil’s Peak and glared at me like she’d happily stab me with one of Wyatt’s auction pens.

I could do it now. She’s looking at my mouth again. Her hands are gripping the edge of the counter.

She wouldn’t stop me and that’s exactly why I don’t.

I straighten.

Confusion flashes across her face. Then irritation.

A grin curves my lips as I pick up my gloves from the desk.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

“Looks like something.”

“You’re infuriating.”

“Been told.”

“You did that on purpose.”

“Did what?”

She waves between us. “This.”

I glance at the six inches of space separating us. “You’ll have to be more specific.”

Her cheeks turn pink. “You know exactly what you did.”

“Almost kissed my wife?”

Her eyes widen. I like making her blush. A lot.

“You weren’t going to kiss me.”

“Was.”

“Then why didn’t you?”

There it is.

I move back toward her.

Her chin rises again. Brave little thing.

“Because you haven’t decided whether you want me to yet.”

“I don’t.”

“Okay.”

I turn away.

“Stop doing that.”
