“Want me to leave?”
“Probably safer.”
Lila stomps across the fresh snow.
Her cheeks are red from the cold. Her hair is pulled into a messy knot. She crosses her arms when she stops beneath my ladder and looks up at me. “What are you doing?”
“Working.”
“I can see that. Get down.”
Tanner laughs. I glare at him and he immediately finds something fascinating inside his truck.
I climb down to find her beautiful frowning face flushed with annoyance. She’s five-four yet she somehow manages to look like she’s about to kick my ass.
“What?”
She points at the stack of lumber. “What’s that?”
“Wood.”
“Don’t be a smart-ass.”
“Asked a dumb question.”
“Did you order this?”
“Yeah.”
“With whose money?”
“Mine.”
Her mouth opens.
I walk toward the lodge.
She follows. “Why are you buying supplies for my lodge?”
“Because you need them.”
“I didn’t ask you to.”
“I know.”
“You also called Lang Heating.”
“Boiler’s shit.”
“And someone mysteriously renegotiated my linen contract.”
“They were overcharging you.”
“How would you know?”
“Read the invoices.”
Her mouth drops open. “You went through my invoices?”
