“What are you making?”
“Chili.”
“Smells burned.”
“It’s not burned.”
“Smells burned.”
She holds out the spoon. “Come here.”
“No.”
“Come taste it.”
“I’m good.”
“Dane.”
I walk over and she lifts the spoon.
I reach for it but she pulls away. “Open.”
Her eyes brighten. She likes ordering me around. Cute.
I open my mouth and she slides the spoon between my lips and then watches me taste it.
Her smile disappears. She looks at my mouth.
“Burned,” I say.
She blinks. “You’re an asshole.”
I grab the spoon before she can pull it away and take another bite. “I’ll still eat it though.”
“You don’t deserve my chili.”
“Probably not.”
“Make your own dinner.”
“Okay.” I turn but she catches my shirt.
“Wait.”
I look down at her hand. She releases me. “I made enough for both of us.”
“Thought I didn’t deserve it?”
“You don’t.”
“Great. Good talk.”
She laughs.
I’m finding I really fucking love when she laughs.
And then my phone buzzes.
