“Fine. I’m a little mean.”
“Eat.”
I stab an egg.
“You know what your problem is?”
“Got a list.”
“You think because you’re bigger than everyone, you get to decide everything.”
“No.”
“No?”
“I decide things because I’m usually right.”
I laugh despite myself. “You’re unbelievable.”
“Eat your eggs.”
“I hope you know I’m going back to the lodge today.”
“No.”
My fork hits the plate. “Excuse me?”
“Road’s closed.”
“I can walk.”
“Six miles?”
“I like walking.”
“In eighteen inches of snow?”
“I have boots.”
He looks toward the mudroom. “The fashion ones?”
“Oh, screw you.”
His gaze moves over me.
Slowly.
Heat hits my face.
“That an offer?”
I nearly choke on my coffee.
He takes another bite of eggs like he didn’t just say it.
“You cannot say things like that.”
“Why?”
