Max didn’t move.
I looked down.
The dog stared at my steak.
“He’s very loyal,” I said.
“To steak.”
Mace pointed toward the hallway.
“Max.”
The dog released a long breath and followed him.
The door closed.
Carson waited three seconds.
“How many times did you date him?”
I picked up my fork.
“That has nothing to do with the investigation.”
“Four,” Will said.
I looked at him.
He smiled.
“Rylie told me.”
“When did you speak to Rylie?”
“She brought the hamburger.”
“You were alone with her for thirty seconds.”
“She’s efficient.”
Will leaned over his soup.
“She said there was a football game, a movie, dinner, and a walk beside a lake.”
I stared at both of them.
Carson pointed toward the wall.
“These rooms aren’t soundproof.”
“I’m going to request different investigators.”
“You’d miss us.”
“I would not.”
“You’d have to carry your own evidence cases,” Will said.
