“Then where do we go?”
“My place,” Wolf says.
“No,” I answer.
Wolf raises an eyebrow.
“I have a cabin.”
Doc looks at me.
“You rented a cabin?”
“Outside town.”
“Why?”
“Because I don't like neighbors.”
Havoc grins.
“You're gonna fit in great around here.”
I ignore him.
“The cabin sits on twelve acres. One road in. Woods behind it. Clear sight lines on three sides.”
Claire stares at me.
“You evaluated the sight lines before renting it?”
“Yes.”
“Of course you did.”
Nathan would've said exactly the same thing.
For a second, neither of us speaks.
She feels it too.
I can tell.
Then Sophie walks over carrying her stuffed rabbit.
Buddy follows directly behind her.
“Mommy, are we going somewhere?”
Claire reaches for her.
“Just for a little while.”
Sophie looks at me.
“Is Buddy coming?”
I look at the dog.
