“You didn’t drown Emily,” she said.
Silence.
“Robert did.”
The warehouse door burst open.
Evan stepped into the rain with one arm locked around Rylie’s neck.
The black-handled knife rested against her side.
Rylie’s face was pale.
But her eyes were furious.
Not frightened.
Furious.
“Robert couldn’t do anything right,” Evan said. “He was supposed to scare her.”
Judy’s voice remained steady.
“But he killed her.”
“She fought.”
“And your father covered it up.”
“Dad protected his family.”
“Walter protected murderers.”
Evan dragged Rylie farther into the yard.
Trigger’s weapon tracked every movement.
Evan smiled at him.
“You must be the husband.”
Trigger didn’t answer.
“You know she was always the weakest one,” Evan continued. “She forgot everything.”
Rylie suddenly laughed.
The sound surprised everyone.
Even Evan.
“You really believe that?”
His smile faded.
Rylie looked directly at Judy.
“I remember the playground.”
