She looks at her computer screen as she types away at the keys without as much as giving me a confirmation that she’s looking his huge ass up.
I stick my hands in my front pockets and look around as I wait.
“Bond for Lucas Abbott is five thousand dollars,” the woman says into the speaker, making my brows raise in shock.
But not for the reason I’m sure she thinks.
If Mountain’s bond is five large, how much was mine?
Did Blake really front that much?
“If you don’t have the funds available, we can accept payment in the form of collateral if you own a vehicle outright or a home. If you can’t do that, he will have to stay in until he can see the judge.”
“I have the money. You take card, yeah?” I pull my wallet out of my back pocket and take out my debit card.
No sense in wasting time driving back to my house to grab cash and all the way back. He probably wouldn’t be out until tomorrow if I did that.
“We do. There will be a three percent service charge.”
Of fucking course there is.
Anything to fuck me in the ass for more money.
Almost makes me want to get the club into a bond smith business.
“Ring it up.” I tap my card against the counter two times before tossing it onto the little window opening at the bottom of the plexiglass.
She pins me with a hard stare before she slowly slides my card out of the little slot and off the counter.
I wait as she types in my card information and prints off a receipt. She slides both back through. “Bond has been posted. Keep this receipt.”
“Thanks. Any idea how long it will take until he’s out?” I ask as I put my card back in my wallet and shove it into my back pocket.
“Depends. Shift change is happening now and a few people didn’t show up so things are running a little behind.” She glances at the clock behind her. “My guess, he will be out sometime tonight.”
I nod as I tap my hand on the counter and move away. “I’ll be back.”
I inhale deeply as I leave the office and the outside air hits my face, finally smelling something that doesn’t smell like straight ass.
Blake’s car door flies open as soon as she sees me come into view. She’s out of the car, running toward me before I can make it to her, slamming into me, her arms wrapping me up tight. I let out a grunt as I fall back a step from the impact.
“Did you get him out?” she asks against my chest, worry lacing her tone.
My hand comes to the back of her head, stroking her hair, and I try to comfort her. It does something to me that she cares about me and my brother the way she does. I can deal with her fiery attitude all day long if I know at the end of the day I’m the one who gets to see her sweet side.
“He’s bonded out,” I tell her. “Let’s head to the clubhouse and we’ll talk.”
Blake pulls away from me as she looks up at me confused. “We aren’t waiting for him to get out? How is he going to get home?”
“It’s going to take a while. They said he should be out tonight.”
Blake’s shoulders sag as she looks down at the ground. “Damn.”
“Hey.” I lift her chin up. “Don’t feel bad. You think this is the first time we’ve been in jail?” I smirk, trying to cheer her up. “It’s not even the third time, toots, and it probably won’t be the last.”
Blake studies me before finally shrugging it off. “Well, it’s your life. If you want to spend it in and out of jail, then be my guest.”
I snicker.
