Sling snatches my cigarette out of my hand and replaces it with his blunt before I can even blink. I look between him and the blunt, not saying a word.

“It’ll take the edge off.”

“I have something to take the edge off.”

A grin spreads across Sling’s face as he looks at my tall boy on the glass table. “Yeah, I can see that. I didn’t know people still drank that shit. Miss fancy bartender couldn't come up with something that doesn’t taste like ass?”

“What’s wrong with Mike’s Hard Lemonade?” I ask, a little offended he doesn’t like my drink of choice.

“Fuck no. I prefer to get my sweet in the form of something…” Sling pauses as his heated eyes roam up and down my body. “That has an ass full of attitude.”

I roll my eyes as I look back up at the sky. “I can’t stand you.”

“I think you’re standing me just fine, babe.”

I take a hit of the blunt, not passing it back to him. “You don’t know what I’m thinking. Last time I checked, you aren’t a mind reader. If you were, you wouldn’t have made it your life’s mission to piss me off every day. I can’t be held responsible if that kind of behavior continues.”

Maybe I should have picked up a dime bag instead. I feel like a weight’s been lifted, even if it’s only temporary.

“I might not be a mind reader, but I can read your gorgeous body just fine,” Sling tells me as he finishes the last of my cigarette.

My nose scrunches up as I take another drag. “What does that mean?”

“Toots, you’re practically lying on me.”

My body locks tight as I process what Sling just said. The warmth I had begun to feel isn’t coming from the blanket I brought outside with me but from Sling’s body. I’m not only pressed tightly against his side, but I’m practically molded to him with my head neatly tucked where his arm meets his body. It’s like the little nook was made for my head.

I wrap my hand around Sling’s wrist in an attempt to move his arm and try to sit up, but the arm Sling has around me tightens, holding me in place.

“Uh uh,” Sling says. “I don’t think so.”

“Let me up,” I grit out, my body flushing with a mix of embarrassment for catching myself slipping and annoyance from Sling thinking he can order me around.

“No.”

My brows shoot up. “No?” I echo, my tone taking on a slight edge.

“No,” Sling repeats.

The amusement lacing his tone is only adding fuel to the fire that’s brewing inside me.

“Sling, you have three seconds to let me up before I elbow you in the balls.” I dig my elbow that’s resting on his thigh into the skin, letting him know I’m not fucking around.

“Toots,” Sling says, not moving his thigh away from the danger zone. “Since the day you came marching across my lawn, you’ve been uptight as fuck. My dick gets hard just thinking about how it knows it has the correct dose of medicine you need. But he and I understand we need to bide our time. So, since is the first time I’ve seen you semi chilled the fuck out, you aren’t moving. In fact, I’m about to roll you another blunt and watch you really relax.”

I look at him, both confused, and a little touched that, for a reason unbeknownst to me, he cares that I’ve been so stressed out lately.

“Correct dose of medicine?” I ask slowly, wondering what in the hell he means by that.

A sly grin spreads across Sling’s face. “You need to get dicked down, and he’s the only man for the job.”

My eye twitches at the stupidity of his comment.

I might not have had sex in a while.

Okay, fine, a really long time.

But how does he know that? It’s not stamped across my forehead.
